I chose a 400 f5.6L over the zoom, but after seeing a shot like this it makes me wonder if I did the right thing. It's a beauty of a lens, it really is - But the focus is soooooo slooooow! As my style has moved towards desaturated and rather dark images (both done in PP like those below), the colours are not too important for me, but I like the versatility and sharpness of the lens as well as the shallow DOF available through large apertures (I typically shoot at 2.8 to 3.2). And of course the colours are good with this lens, if you prefer that. I love these shots!! bares a striking resemblance!!! ![]()

Check any test you want, its even sharper than the 2.8 version and its even sharper than some equal primes according to a test site. I have used it a lot since Ive bought it and it suprises me how good it is. ITs sharp throughout the zoom range, throughout the aperture range and throughout the coverage (center, corners and extreme corners)...It must be one of the few lenses on earth that is 5 star optical quality, 5 star build quality AND 5 star value/price. You won't regret. Now if it was f2.8 it'd be perfect. Fran
