do you wear a photographers vest?

I was thinking of getting one as the pockets would come in handy. Does anybody wear one? Would you wear it to shoot a wedding or other formal event?

The official uniform/dress-code around here is khaki vest, blue shirt and jeans. Just ask the guys who go deer & kangaroo shooting up north.

I do have one, but have only worn it a couple of times. Even though it comes in handy for carrying stuff around - it makes me feel like such a geek.

They are definately a handy thing to have when trekking with a lot of gear,. But I find I don't need all that storage too often.

But the vest is only half the equation... wait'll they get a load of my new sun hat! (no more dishcloth)

I've looked into the matter and have even tried a couple of them on.

I discovered that inspite of all the pockets and pouches, they all seem to lack room for one important piece of equipment......ME.

Maybe if I lose a few more pounds----

There is too much of me too. If someone was looking for a vest, which one would be recommended?

I just got the el~!cheapo at the local shop... "campco" for $40.00 or so.. I can't see investing in anything more pricey unless wearing one a lot as a pro would,. as it's essentially just a bag of pockets.

Makes sense CDS. Never even looked that close I guess. I have been known to lug all of my gear. Might be easier.

I definitely do find one very useful on the days that I feel I need all the gear on me at all times. I just don't find that to be too often.

There's no doubt that they are more comfortable & convenient than any bag I've seen. (Backpacks greatly lower the convenience mind you.) And you can carry twice as much since the gear is spread around and across your shoulders. They're very convenient.

The only time I don't wear my Domke vest at the racing circuit is when the weather requires waterproof or warmer clothing. Never felt like a geek wearing it, it is just a tool of the trade, somewhere to keep all your odd bits of gear, sandwiches and cans of Red Bull.

For a wedding shoot, we had the film photographer wearing black shirt, black vest, and black trousers. The digital photographer was wearing white shirt, khaki vest, and khaki trousers.

Photographer's vests are generally slightly different from a hunter's vest in that the pockets are larger. Photographers need several big pockets for lenses and things. Hunters need lots of smaller pockets, apparently. I know mine has so many pockets that it takes me a minute to find anything.

I have looked at them . . . and laughed at the photos in the attached link . . . thank you for that. Post some shots of you guys in yours and then the 'rest of us' can make a better choice.

Well, first you need a blue shirt, THEN you get the photo vest.

Funny to think that we never planned that. The 4 of us even have 2 different brands of vests, all khaki. And the matching blue shirts were not noticed until the pics were posted.
