Oh, and back on Topic, they finally finished! :D Considering they're well over 2 year old Enegizer 2,500 MaH's they've charged back up to 2,300 MaH (except one which was 1,800 or something - throwing that one away.

I've found that the Discarge cycle works well, set to charge at 500ah - doesn't take too long to discharge then charge up again.

Just got one this morning, after reading all the positive reviews online (and over at The Strobist).

Are they worth the £40 is cost?

yup

Sorry, how about I say "Yes, they worth the £40 is cost" instead? Does that make my answer to your question better?

Considering the original post, he did answer a yes/no "closed question" correctly (with a single word or short phrase) and then he replied by quoting your original post.

Anyway... Is it worth the cost? Although cost is relative and worth is subjective, many people on here would say "yes" as there are many topics about how much they like the charger and you have already done research and read good reviews about the charger. Most people here recommend the Maha Charger C9000 or the La crosse BC900. I'd like to pick up either to try and bring back some dieing Energizer batteries as well.

Unless you want to power "C" and "D" cell devices from AA batteries I would not bother with the BC900, because the extra cost over the BC700 is to include some AA to C/D cell converters and a pouch, none of which I need. In terms of features and performance the BC700 is identical to the BC900, so if AA batteries (or AAA batteries) is all you are interested in you may as well save your money.

On http://www.thomas-distributing.com (external link), it's only a $5 difference. MSRP is the same for both.

The BC-900 has charge rates of either 200, 500, 700, 1000, 1500, or 1800 mA whereas the the BC-700 is capable of charge rates of either 200, 500, or 700 mA so the BC-900 can charge at a slower rate.

Also the 900 is blue and the 700 is black so colour preference can come into play. :)

Well I do apologise for writing a load of twaddle in my earlier post. :o

In the UK the specs are as I described, but the BC700 I referred to doesn't actually exist. It is, in fact, the BL700 - a small but distinct difference. Here are the UK models....

http://www.batterylogic.co.uk …/technoline-i-charger.asp (external link) (£39)

http://www.batterylogic.co.uk …line/technoline-bl700.asp (external link) (£27)

I never noticed the different charging rates but they do apply as well. That said, there is no way I wold ever want to cook my batteries at 1800mA charge rate. They get warm enough at 500mA.

I've also noticed that the UK BC900 price includes 4 x 2700mAh AA cells as well, not included in the cheaper model. So all in all I cocked up royaly. :o

Time to visit the optition.........
