The poll pretty much says it all...

... I recently got a film body just so I could shoot some FF stuff for personal projects - and it made me REALLY sad going back to my 1.6x crop body. Anybody else from film days miss this stuff, or am I the only one who loves those super-wide shots?

Started with a 5D - but that is often away from me shooting award shots up north... so essentially downgraded and make do often with a 40D... and yeah i miss FF - not so much film but FF definantly. I do like the features of the 40 but i so love the images from the 5 :)

I dont fit in your 4 boxes... but i do miss 5d when its not with me... 1.6x just doesnt shoot the same shot!

i am currently looking at a eos 1v - just not so sure about the ongoing costs of film not to mention the storage of actual paper. :)

I can't afford a full frame 35mm dslr

so

I bought a full frame 22mm dslr instead.

therealmr,
I used to shoot film..... and have a FF 5D and 1.6 40D
With my 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 lens I don't use my FF much (its my backup) With my 40D I get ultra wide and more telephoto. So because of the Ultra Wide now available for 1.6 sensors crop factor doesn't bother me. :)

There's usually a telephoto attached.

I prefer a crop body in my situation.

The 1.6X crop cameras have plenty of fitting lenses these days that should allow you to shoot the same UWA shots you were getting on film. Instead of the 16-35L on film for example, there's a myriad of 10-XX, 11-XX or 12-XX zooms available that would achieve approximately the same field of view or effective focal length.

Things only become limiting when you're looking for say, the FOV of a rectilinear 14mm lens on FF.

I used to shoot film then went to a 1.6x digital body. I soon found myself longing back to FF. So that is what I did, got a FF body and were happy again. I have a 1.3x body also now but would have preferred if it to be FF.

I never shot film and the crop factor never bothered me until I shot with a 1.3x and FF camera. Thereafter it bothered me. That 3-D feel of a wide angle prime on FF simply can't be replicated on a 1.6x.

I have a Minolta XD11 and 28, 50 and 100mm Rokkors, so when the urge hits, I can shoot FF. But I like the convenience (no trips to the drug store, time spent scanning negatives) of digital. Avatar was shot with 100mm f/2.5 MD Rokkor-X

Where's the "I still shoot film, and miss FF with digital" option? I actually just picked up my EOS-3 last week. I don't think digital will replace film; it's just another artistic medium, each with their own applications in which the respective technology excels. But that's an entirely different topic of debate :)

I don't mind the crop but I don't like the 1.6 crop. I much prefer the 1.3 crop in the 1 series cameras. It is not quite FF but it is not as annoying as 1.6 when trying to shoot wide. Yes, I know that you can get a wider lens but when you need a fast lens the $1450 extra for the 16-35 2.8 negates the savings you get by buying a 1.6 crop camera.

There is always the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 for $900 less and you can get much wider.

The only real limiting factor (in reference to getting wide) of a 1.6 crop camera in getting wide is those people who refuse to use anything other than Canon L glass.
