I am a photographer whom has a in-home studio with strobes I purchased off of ebay....the maker of the strobes ~ still shot 2. I have two strobes with soft boxes that I use during my sessions. I orginally purchased a slave remote system on ebay for $35.00 it was junk! I now have my strobes firing sometimes & sometimes not! It is really embarressing during a session to have my lights fail. I need some help on what to buy~ I'm looking at the pocket wizard plus II I just need to know what all of them to buy.....I know one will go on my hotshow mount, and one to plug into the stobe, but do I need a third for the 2nd strobe or does it fire both strobes from one reciever?

The remote slave I purchased on ebay has a hotshow mount, and two little boxes that plug into each strobe....will I also need 3 pocket wizards? and if so, what is the best place to purchase them...trying to be on a budget!!! I really thank you all in advance for all of your help. I HATE learning from my own mistakes, because it gets a little bit expensive ;) Thanks again!

Have a look at the Skyport Universal (external link) set. They are half the price of Pocket Wizards and every bit as reliable. They do not have the range of PW's, but that won't matter in a studio environment.

Do your slaves have an optical trigger built in? If they do not, then you can buy one (external link) for your second light and not have to buy another radio receiver.

There is also the newer Cybersyncs (external link), which I haven't heard anything bad about that are a little cheaper than the Skyports and supposedly just as reliable (I haven't personally used these, so I can't comment for shure).

To answer your question on the PW's, if your strobes are monolights you will need 1 for each strobe, if you have 2 light system with a power supply you only need 2 one for camera and one on the power block.
