Caught a few local fowl at nearby Soddy Lake yesterday after work.

This one isn't particularly pretty-looking, but she (he?) does have an interesting color scheme.

Here's a few in-flight shots - a local youth was feeding them, so I had plenty of opportunity to get some practice shooting flying birds.

And finally, mother goose gets here neck in a knot. Not the odd "albino" appearance to her eye. It had to be the sun's angle, because her eyes don't normally look like that.

The gull looks vaguely like a ring-billed gull, (Larus delawarensis). It's winter range includes Tennessee.

Some day, I'll learn to name them (perhaps I ought to invest in a book on birds). Yes, there are a great multitude of these gulls, ducks, and geese at this lake, year-round. They co-mingle quite readily, particularly if one of the locals decides to toss some bread into the water.

The duck with the red face might be a domestic Muscovy Duck. They all have the red face, and they come in different variations and combinations of black and white.

For you, I would suggest looking for the Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America.

Thanks for the tip, Bob. I'm bad with names, and particularly bad with names that I do not know. :)
