Despite a 3 hour drive through flooding rains, nary a drop fell on the Field Turf of Memorial Stadium, and the Illini squeaked by the Ragin' Cajuns 20-17.

1) Heisman hopeful Juice Williams in the first half. He didn't have a very good game.

2) Illini running back Daniel Dufrene busts a 26 yard run (two of a burst of 5 shots)

4) Dufrene and receiver Will Judson celebrate Dufrene's first half touchdown - one of only 2 scored by the Illini during the game: the other was an interception return which I don't believe anyone caught. The Illini wore home orange jerseys, which made background separation a little challenging since most of the 50,000+ also work their traditional orange garb to the game.

Here's a shot of ULL TE Eik Jones scoring a last-minute TD that had me wishing 2 things: First, I wish I hadn't just stood up from kneeling (there were 20 seconds to go in the game and I was preparing to head to the photo tent - stupid me) and second, I wish I had a better camera on my second body than my 20D, as this was one of those times I would have liked to have more than 3-5 fps. Oh well.

GREAT shots. Clarity is awesome.
Are using the MK III or MKIIN?

Dave and Craig - Thanks. I used a MKIIn on all but the last shot. As noted, the final image was taken with a 20D and a 70-200 f/2.8 L on my second body.

pac,

Thanks. Don't despair - I didn't get "serious" about this until a few years ago, and I have just entered my 6th decade on Earth, so it's never too late to start or to kick your game up a notch or two.

wow, your shots are just amazing...

let me know when you shoot the blackhawks.

Thanks. Can shoot 'em until they play, but had the chance to cover 10 Hawks games last year, and hope to do as many if not more this year.

Dennis...

All of these pictures are really just unacceptably soft IMO.

Dennis:
I notice your ISO and shutter bounced around a fair bit. Were you constantly adjusting for lighting conditions, or what? Just curious why there is not more consistency in your settings.

Christian,

The shutter speed bounces as the lighting changes (I shot most of the game in Av due to variable cloud cover). Aperture and ISO are kept constant in Av and shutter speed varies.

I monitor the resulting shutter speeds as I shoot and as the lighting changes. Typical of a day when the sun is in and out of the clouds, my shutter speed was ranging from 1/2500s to faster than 1/8000s. When the shutter speed exceeded the max/min I'd very the ISO to bring it back.

Does the MkII not have a safety shift feature?

Adam,

Nope. That feature didn't come until the MkIII (I believe, as I don't have a MkIII).
