I'm looking to purchase a new monitor possibly the HP LP2475w which is an IPS. I have read some information about negatives on wide gamut color monitors...should I be concerned for PP?

Or should I go with a TN monitor and a good color calibration software?

Looking for your advice as I'm somewhat new to this type of technology.

Thank you in advance!

If you can afford it, go for an IPS panel every time. You'll get no joy from a TN panel. I'm not sure what you've read about wide gamut monitors, but perhaps you've misinterpreted it?

Thanks. Using a monitor with a wider gamut than sRGB offers some great benefits for photography and other professional applications. However, using the same monitor for recreational use (eg. web viewing) results in an over-saturated appearance in non-colour managed situations.

I use firefox which allows color management so that shouldn't be a problem although from my experience Windows operating system does not allow color management. Not sure how big of a deal this is...can anybody weigh in on this?

Well...for one, most "affordable" IPS panels aren't really what I would call wide gamut. You're still talking 8 bit color.

Bit depth has nothing to do with gamut. But you're right, you need to spend a LOT of money to get a wide-gamut monitor.
