Hey gang;

Spent the day chasing our local steam locomotive on its last excursion of the year. Winter is coming and a scheduled boiler tear-down is on the horizon.

Enjoy! I tried to shoot a little slow on the "pacing" shots and also to get more of the tender in the picture. Still learning post processing so all comments/critique welcome.

I like the third one. What if you aged it?

5 & 6 are awesome. #3 is lovely, although perhaps a little soft?

For the panning shots, were you chasing it in a car?

I looked at the first one for ages. That engine looks like she's got some serious power.

Nice series. That train looks like it has some get-up and go.

The "panning" shots are actually "pacing" shots. The tracks parallel the highway at several places and we try to match our car speed to the trains speed. Most of these are shot with me in the back seat, barking out orders "Speed up!" "Slow down!". Speeds are about 60 mph. It is rather difficult to get a good stable shot at 1/40-1/80 shutter speed. I shot that slow to get the motion blur on the drive wheels and cylinders.
