Aright, enough about all the techie stuff, lets see some shots taken with them! :) These were actually done with 4 lights. An Alienbees 1600 with octabox, a B400 with medium softbox and my two Genesis 200s with umbrellas. Enjoy

Awesome work :) my only advice is to get rid of the shadow in the border of the photo in the first one, other than that great job :).

Thats the only drawback with mixing strobes, different guide numbers! Will take it out of the final edit.

I sure the Genesis lights were the real performers too. Great shots.

If you meter your lights, it shouldn't matter what the guide numbers are.

Yeah, I don't get that comment either.

It looks to me like shutter creep, not a metering problem. It could be, too, at 1/250...

Yup, I vote for shutter creep.

Let's see, a B1600 in an octabox, a B400 in a softbox, and two Genesis with umbrellas? And what unit was the 'performer'?

Doub - you'd likely be happy with them. I really like the housings, rubberized coating, and solid handles on them. But outdoors you'll need radio triggers rather than relying on their built-in sensor to pick up other flashes.

What I meant by "guide number" is this. The Genesis lights for example are different at 10 feet distance. The 400s are shutter speed of 160 and the 200s are 125. So when you mix 400s and 200s, what do you shoot at? 160 or 125? I also had 2 ABs with different guide numbers as well but was shooting at 250. If I would have shot at 160 or even 125, bet you wouldnt notice the spots on the right. Also, it only shows up on the white background, not noticeable against the black.

"Guide number" has to do with the power output of a flash, not the shutter speed used during the shoot. That said though - if you knew you were using strobes that required a slower sync speed, why did you use a faster shutter speed than that?

um- yeah. What he said. Guide has no bearing on shutter speed.

So what does the guide number refer to then? I was assuming 125 and 160 was referring to the shutter speed the lights sync at?
