Can anyone tell me what that gas is escaping from the rear of the plane?

It looks like a Embraer jet to me. Not sure about the "Gas". seems like it would be blowing back more if not right down the body. It would have to have really high pressure to blow straight out like that. I also don't see a hole where it is coming out of. I believe its light reflecting from some where

Not sure what it is, but I can definitely tell you it's not gas. Jet fuel is released from the wings, not the aft.

Gas, as in a gas form of something not as in what Americans call petrol/fuel. :p

It's not venting, it's lens flare. This bad boy is flying wheels and flaps up so it's traveling easily well over 200. Anything venting from the craft itself would head straight back along the path being traveled. So I'm thinking that this is just a case of some flare just happening in an interesting place.

At those speeds, having something shoot out in a straight line like that means it is under extreme pressure.

Or, it came from photoshop.

EDIT: Can lens flare really look like that? (If so, I learned something new.......)

I don't think its flare, its too specific and localized. Surely flare would show up elsewhere in the image also?????

Not only is it not venting "the way it should", it also looks like it is venting to the side. It, IMO is some sort of lens flare.

At that speed nothing would "vent" straight down. Any fluid would look horizontal as the aircraft moves across the sky. Google Images "Water Bomber" to see thousand of gallons of water coming out under pressure and even it turns as the plane flies away or for even more fun Google Images "Fuel Dump."

http://upload.wikimedia.org …lon%2C-VIC-23.03.2007.jpg (external link)

All fluids from the lavs are captured in holding tanks until they get to the gate where they are drained by the "Lav Truck."

It isn't an Airbus but an Embraer 170, 180 or 190. Sorry I can't be more exact but I'm not up on Embraer spotting. If you know the air carrier you could search on their web site to see what equipment they operate.

It is a 737-800 owned by Thomsonfly and flys around Europe and the UK not a Embraer.

Cheers Barry

You are correct about it being a 738, but it is in fact not ThomsonFly as was my first thought also but I began seeing differences between the paint scheme.

This aircraft you have photographed is a Neos 737-800 as pictured below...
