on there site i was looking at some of the photos and it seams people put there lens through the fence ..... am i right if so what you you say was the max diameter of lens that could be used ?

75mm ( 3 inches) from memory. Worls really well. I got some great shots last time I went.

Maybe we could have a day there as a group?

Nice David, relly like the 1st. Is the 2nd shot a wreck? 450d - new toy??

Thanks Mark! :D

Yup the 2nd shot is the wreck of the Mary Rose, the only surviving 16th century warship on display in the world :) It has to be constantly drenched with salt water to preserve the wood and stop it rotting further ... pretty impressive!

Yup the 450D is my new toy! :D I always wanted to upgrade my G9 for my aerial photography work, as in the recent poor light we've had, my aerial photos have really suffered (ISO400 on the G9 leaves much to be desired :(). I know my helicopter is capable of lifting more than it is presently, so seeing that the Cashback promotion for the 450D had been extended to the 12th Jan, I decided to go for it! £329 in total with the cashback = good to me! :D

Cheers!

David :D

Great photos all!

Sorry I've been a little quiet lately - haven't found time to engage in the forum much ... back to work tomorrow though so I think it's safe to say you'll be seeing a lot more of me :p

Here's a shot from yesterday when Steffi and I went to Portsmouth for the day!

Proved a great opportunity to road-test my Christmas present to myself - an EOS 450D! :D I'll mainly be using it for Aerial Photography but it's also a great introduction to the world of DSLRs for Steffi, who is already thoroughly enjoying using it!

When we separated during the day (when I wanted to go off photographing and Steffi wanted to inspect the local sales ;)) I used both bodies, usually with my 17-55 on one and either the Nifty of 70-200 on the other :)

I didn't give the 450 an easy day either, with lots of low-light, long-exposure work ... and I'm impressed!

450D, 17-55mm at 17mm, F2.8, 1/3s, ISO800

450D, 17-55mm at 17mm, F2.8, 1/3s, ISO1600

Both hand-held (gotta love the IS on the 17-55!), and no noise reduction on either - in-camera or in post-processing!

Cheers for now! :D

David

Hi David

I really like that 'night' shot ~ very well executed.

As for the Mary Rose? Are you sure it is salt water? I recall at the time of the lift/recovery they transfered the parts to special tanks to remove the salt water and replace it with an aqueous based synthetic & I thought the reason for misting and continued soaking is that until (in some years time) they can allow the wood to dry out and the synthetic will stop it cracking and breaking up.

Oh, a 450D on the heli will make a heck on aerial camera combo :D

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Yes you can put the lens through. The 70-200f4L filter ring is pretty much the same size as the holes., so I could get that part through but not the lens itself. So long as you get the lens centered around the squares then it isn't an issue.

Evening all, like Ian said, today was CCCCCCCOOOOLD!!

Great work David, we were talking about your new ideas at the pub. Cant wait to see the results.

Had a good day with the 300L apart from it adjusted rapidly to the temperature so got a bit uneasy holding  Importing now.

He was even crazier juggling on that ladder with blades! I like the 300L but low light does get tricky to handle. Did work if I was warmer. :D
