OK, what do I do? Dip into the money me and the missus have saved for our house deposit and buy a 5D MKII now or leave it 6 months and try to save even more for the camera and just hope that the price will either be lower or at least the same as it is now?

I hate making decisions like this.

No sense and unfortunately not enough money.

Oh I don't plan to buy a house for at least another year or so, but we're still saving hard so we have as big a deposit as possible.
If I dip into the savings to the tune of say £2000 then I have to save an extra £200-ish a month for the next year to make up the shortfall for our deposit.

Any ideas how bad these predicted price hikes on gear are actually going to be?

I would hope the UK would be hit to hard with the increase of Camera gear. I would think that Canon and everyone else would level out there prices so the US prices are simular to UK to HKG to Japen etc...

5Ds won't go up as much as houses will go down. You'll pick up a three bed semi next year for about 59p :D

Would certainly be interested in the meet on the 4th, would just need to swap my mid-week day off with someone at work.
If location has not yet been decided, can easy train links be accounted for in the decision? I still cant drive since my poxy bike crash, but would love to come along.

Of course! Or if you are near me or someone else we can always pick you up I'm sure.

Any ideas where you'd like to go?

I hope you're both right.
We have around £10K saved already but unless you have enough for about 15% deposit then mortgage lenders either won't give you anything or if they do, its at a really high rate.
I have a feeling I'm going to end up using a substantial chunk of my shares money towards buying a place when I get it in 15 months. Which is not ideal as I had other plans for that money. :(

No sense and unfortunately not enough money.

Well im in Maidstone, so about 40 minutes from you Anke.If im one the way to wherever we decide to go, a lift would be fantastic! Not sure where to go though, i will put my thinking cap on.

Surely these price hikes will be short term? If the prices go up and sales go down because less people can afford them, margins will have to suffer at the retailers end. (going over the £2k makes a big difference to people mind sets compared to a sub £2k, even if its only £1950).
I know its not exactly a show stopper, but the 450D was ~£600 at release and is now widely available for ~£340. I am annoyed because i purchased at the blunt end of that price range and could have saved allot. Granted i didnt have a DSLR at the time, so i think i might (might) be able to make do with the 450d until the 5DmkII loses the spotlight and drops in price.

If it never gets as low as £1836.98 again i will buy you a consolatory pint. :D

Biggest problem at the moment is that everyone who has it priced at under £2000 doesn't actually have it in stock.
