I'm going to be flying up to Inverness in Jun to play with some Osprey, i can fit all my gear into my 200AW but it ways about 12kg which is more than the 5kgs alowd on Easyjet, so i would need to split it 50/50% in to a peli case and hand luggage, and i'll also be hiring a 500L for the trip.

has anyone had and expreiance flying with Easyjet with your camera gear, in the hold and Carry on?:(

Easyjet's carry-on limit was 10kg when I flew with them in June last year. They rarely weigh it though so I got away with about 12kg.

No sense and unfortunately not enough money.

Yea, I've found that if you just leave your backpack on and just sort of point to it when they ask about carry on they don't generally ask to weigh it. Just try not to look like you're struggling under 20kg's of photo gear ;)

Yeah, luckily I had two people standing behind me to stop me from toppling backwards.

I've taken a full mini-trekker on as hand luggage a few times without any problems.

Renting a 500L? Im not a big lad but I could not hold that thing for long. :(

I was ok with the Sigma 120-300 and the 400L IS.

Yep. There is no camera gear in that bag, just a flask of milky tea and some jam sandwiches my mum made for me.

Haha. I bet the photographer needed an underwear change after that.
Notice that the suspect had the surname Sylvester. I've always thought there was something dodgy about people with that name. ;)

I was thinking about given them my camera but knowing them, take one picture and give up.

11kg ? must check the specs, I wonder how much the 2475 weighs? I measured up compared to my venerable 15" LCD and the 2275 and it would give me something like an increase of over 33% on screen real estate.

Oh I have taken that first step (ordered from Insight and delivered the following day [yesterday] and their tech support wasn't bad either~newer kit in older PC and all that) and installed a new graphics card in readiness for spending the much more sizeable amount on the monitor - the PC may no longer the state of the art but the screen will have to come first :D

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Looking forward into the year.

I am seriously thinking of a trip up to Lakenheath - this has two of my interests. The airbase as based on various POTNers images in the Transportation fora photography seems very much alllowed and the somewhere nearby Lakenheath Fen RSPB reserve for the bird opps. No idea whether a group meet for such distance would be of interest but at this stage I think a long weekend i.e. two days in the area to catch both opps. and nice pub food & a beer or two.

:)

A couple of years ago I never bothered backing up ... then when installing some new software (which fiddled with my system files ... it was Bootcamp which allowed Windows XP to run on my Mac), it refused to boot up ...... long story short, £400 and 5 hours of work later at a professional recovery company (HoneyLight in London) I got all my files back. Since then I've backed up to an external hard drive every evening - if my laptop dies / gets stolen / gets corrupted, I've got a mirror copy on the external drive ... no way I'm risking that again! I hope your friend is able to retrieve his stuff ok

Sounds very cool Laurence :) I would be up for a trip like that - could hire a 100-400 for a few days! :D

David :)

Ref Backup - my 'system' is not fully refined but my main files are on a RAID 1 NAS and copied when new images are added to an external WD Passport. I intend to add a Freecom ToughDrive and make two copies on the ext HDDs and amke sure to "rotate them". Reason for the ToughDrive is to always carry it off site with me and the tougher such a drive is the better IMO

Ref Suffolk trip - I also would be planning on hiring glass as needed :D On that note though very early to plan might be nice for others to declare their interest to get a feel for numbers as accomodation will need to be factored in & lens hire booked ahead???
