Mrs G doesn't mind me taking the day off for the meet so I just need to get work to give it the OK. Fingers crossed!

I'm going to be flying up to Inverness in Jun to play with some Osprey, i can fit all my gear into my 200AW but it ways about 12kg which is more than the 5kgs alowd on Easyjet, so i would need to split it 50/50% in to a peli case and hand luggage, and i'll also be hiring a 500L for the trip.

has anyone had and expreiance flying with Easyjet with your camera gear, in the hold and Carry on?:(

I did this exact thing last year- went Osprey shooting at the Rothiemurchus Estate (Where BBC Springwatch came from this year). Also flew EJ LGW-INV.
Currently, EJ carry on is size limited, no weight restricitions. http://www.easyjet.co.uk/EN/Planning/baggage.html (external link)

I put bodies and lenses in hand luggage only, everything else in the hold. Chargers, and all that jazz. Don't forget the liquids restriction too.

It also paid to pay the premium for early boarding -
1. Get a legroom seat (NOTE: The cloth on the headrest is GREY not Orange for these seats- makes them easy to spot) as it's a free-for-all when you board. Get a seat and sit down, bit like a bus.
2- Also makes sure you get your gear up and out of the way early, not jammed in 10 rows away, so when you get off it's there and not with someone who doesn't give a toss about it and you can't reach it because everybody is in the bloody way!

Have a great time. Be prepared for some stupidly early mornings (I had to get in the hide by 4-4.30 am.)
Oh yeah, take a big scrim net 3-4ft sq to cover the side window and a big bean bag, and a thin black silk balacalava helped too. Sorry if that's teaching you to suck eggs, not my intent. If you're not going to Rothie then that's probably all useless.
If you are, say hi to Keith and Mike for me would you please?

Thanks

Mike

Mike

Chris, I really don't mind. I'm sure my passangers don't either. If everyone says yes then I'll be happy driving about.

OK, we'll see if anyone says yes, but I'll have a look about in the meantime. We have plenty of time to find somewhere.

You try this river side nature reserve / country park.

Sorry about the messy link but it should work with a bit of good old cut and paste.
There are a number of decaying old boats laying around in the mud flats there which i found rather interesting but i was out on a cycle ride without the camera. You can see them if you zoom in, Even spotted a couple of Kingfishers.
I Have promised myself to return with gear in hand.

Looks nice. Is it accessible at this time of year then?

Yes no problem, there is even a car park a few feet away from a collection of old boats.
Lots of folks out walking dogs along the well made up path that runs all they way along the river side. It used to be a very busy wharf and dock area so there are interesting bits of wood a iron sticking out of the mud and water, lots of colour and textures. Oh and Mud that really squishy type you don't want to walk in.

The only thing is is there enough to keep us busy for a long time? Which is why I was thinking seaside town with access to a pub ;)

Well you could always go up to the Hoo peninsular where there are two Bird reserves, several pubs and a celebrity in the shape of Jools Holland who lives in Upnor castle (maybe a mass papparazi attack) and even a relatively short blast to Whitstable from there with its rather good seafood restaurants, and more pubs;)
