I found this 'bee' in my neighbour's flowerbed. He is about 1 inch long (much larger than the other bumble bees) no stripes of different color, just medium brown.

I'm certainly no bug expert, but to me it just looks like a pretty ordinary bumble bee. Hopefully someone else will be able to be of more help.
