I had a very disappointing outing on Saturday trying to shoot shore birds with my 1Dm3 and the 600. On Sunday, I decided to see if it was the camera or me, so I went shooting in a more familiar environment. It turns out the problem was apparently me not knowing what I was doing. Birds are tricky. The following shot was taken using AI Servo, and the entire progression of shots was in perfect focus. I didn't have any OOF shots at all. This one is typical.

While I was waiting for subjects to shoot, this Amtrak train snuck up behind me. It was too close to shoot with the 600, so I grabbed the 1Dsm2 with the 70-200 f/2.8 and snagged this one. You have to love two-story passenger trains. (Yes, I know I should have edited out the wires. If I start doing things like that, this little act of pleasure will turn into work, and who wants that?)

And I know this next shot doesn't belong in transportation, but this is probably the best shot I got on Saturday. This is the ugliest chicken I ever saw.

And those first 2 shots are the strangest looking airplanes I've ever seen:lol:
Seriously, I like those pictures a lot.

Yes, birds are very tricky. I probably got 50 keepers out of 300 shots and that is because I accepted less than perfect ones that still captured my interest...like these:

Nice train shots Tom. The heat distortion from the top of the engine is neat. The duck looks a little odd though. And Mo, that has got to be the biggest hummingbird I've ever seen.

This is the ugliest chicken I ever saw.

Looks much better than some of the transportation I've seen here? ;)
