I know there are some Domke experts and I have done a few "help with bag choice" threads and now I'm down to trying to decide between the Domke bags. I currently have a 7mil home which is great but I hate the loud velcro and it's not a great back for quick changing. I found this out the hard way this weekend when I did a beach trip! I realized I'd prefer something longer instead of square because I think it would fit to my side better. I thought I'd lose my mind when the bag I have kept falling forward and nearly pulling me over. I have seeing some reviews on the F2 but so many bags confuse me!

The only other bag that keeps tempting me is the Shootsac although I know it doesn't hold much. I'd love to be able to tote at least 3 of my flashes, I can carry the camera, and need slots for 3 other lenses (one being the 70-200).

Important points: Easy to access, snug fit to body and not bulky (the 7mil is uber bulky) and as little loud velcro as possible!

Thanks so much!!!

I love my 7MDH but I would never use it like that. I use it only for weddings so I know what ya mean. There won't be a rectangle bag that can hold that much though. It will have to be boxy somewhat.

I use both the Domke F-2 and F-1x which is a slightly larger version. The bags definitely fit the easy to access, snug to body, and not bulky requirements. Completely opposite design philosophy from Crumpler- Domke strives to give you the minimum protection you need to actually protect your gear and not any more which just adds to bulk and weight.

The F-1x has a lot more interior room than the F-2 although it is only slightly larger in external dimensions. The key to the Domke bags will be chosing the right inserts. In my F-1x I use a 3 compartment insert and a large one compartment insert and don't make use of the 4 compartment insert that comes with the bag.

This gives me the ability to put one camera and lens face down in the single compartment, store 3 more lenses in the 3 compartment insert, and place another camera with 70-200 inside the bags but outside the inserts on its side. Flashes go on the exterior end pockets, plenty of extra pockets for skyports/tubes/etc. You can get your entire kit in it with room to spare.

Anyone with any more advice? I just want to be sure I make the right choice. I can't afford to get more bags.

THANKS

You want to carry flashes and lenses in the bag, and keep the body out? Is that right? Take a look at the Domke F-802 or F-803 Camera Satchel models. Add the F-901 or F-902 pouches at each end and you'll have room for multiple flashes and lenses. My F-802 with an F-901 and an F-902 carries (Domke's 720-230 insert) a 24-70 (on an ungripped 5D), Sigma 15-30, and 70-200 2.8 IS (on an ungripped 20D) in the inserts, a 580EX at the end of the bag, and the two pockets catch guide books, small lenses and/or teleconverters or water bottle. They could also take your other flashes. The front pockets would also fit a flash each; I keep my Toshiba Libretto (UMPC) in one and batteries, filters, etc. in the other.
