I went to the Reno Air Championships this past weekend and paid the extra money to get access to the pits. I have no idea what kind of plane this is, but they were LOUD when they were racing! I must've caught this plane right after it raced, you can see the exhaust marks on the side of the plane.

Looks like an F4F wildcat. Nice wide angle shot.

Actually it is a FM-2 Wildcat, and it is the slowest in the Unlimited class. "Air Biscuit" is the planes name. Nice shot :)

Haha, I remember hearing the announcers saying "Air Biscuit" repeatedly.

Shock, you should Google this up a bit. Wildcats were, for the Navy, a big player in WWII off carriers. Grumman built some good aircraft, and even though some versions were built by others, it was still "their" design.

Yeah, the Wildcat has some history...

There's this little airport outside Chicago .. named after a Naval Aviator .. I think he had some connection to the Wildcat...

;)

Nice shot...never seen that paint job, guessing it was just for the races.

It's an authentic WWII paint scheme.

Really? I only recall seeing dark blue. And that scheme on other types of larger planes, never on a Wildcat.
