YUP! Seeing these old V Dub vans done up ala "Hippie" brings a smile to my face as well. :)
Nice shots, and thanks for sharing them. ;)

DISCLAIMER: Please take the following as my poor attempt at humor:

First, no "hippie van" would ever have glossy, waxed paint, or for that matter, more than 20% of any one body panel in the same color

Second, No hippie would ever have spent good money on radial tires, which of course weren't all that popular in the "hippie days" and they CERTAINLY didn't have "Radial T/A's" Having hubcaps is of course, ridiculous on the face

Third, No hippie would EVER have special ordered fancy headlight shades for the VeeDub, and the turn signal lenses would have long ago been used for, I donooo, ashtrays?

Fourth The radio antenna is WAY over the top. Any existing connection to the hated society, the "administration", "the establishment", would have been through a rusty, re-bent coat hanger hanging pecariously off the former antenna stub

Fifth: Bumpers, if present would have to be either rusty, bent, or virtually nonexistant, or possibly replaced with a large piece of wood

Last: The luggage is entirely too clean and neat. No self respecting hippie would ever be caught with such an overall "establishment" appearing package.

I feel silly for admitting this now, but it wasn't a bit funny back in the days of the mighty sixpack Roadrunner. I'd, in general, just about had it with hippies and VW's. One day, on the freeway, some POS VW comes churning up a ramp doing the usual VW speed, and B.O's clear over in front of "everybody" in the fast lane doing about 50. "We" had been doing at least the speed limit, some 70. I beeped the futile (Warner Brothers) 'bee-beep' RR horn, getting of course nothing.

Hours later I was down at the auto emporium, purchasing one of those electric/ air horn sets They finally quit me years later, having been relegated by then to the V8 Landcruiser.

All in all, great shots.

Maybe I should have called it a "Partridge Family Mobile"?

My first thought, too! Not nearly enough Flower Power & Psych art, either. Nice to see that they made an effort, though.

electric/ air horn sets

At night I had these Lucas Flamethrower driving lights. When I flipped them on, everyone for a mile ahead in the fast lane moved over right now! :D

I never used flamethrowers, "we" preferred something else.

In the fall of 68, arriving at Treasure Island for Navy Electronics Technician "A" school, I met a friend who then had a 65 Chevelle, with a newly installed 67 Camaro 350, 4 speed, and wheels, out of a total.

"Funny lookin" high beams----so for years and years I used 4537 landling lights---with a small modification, they fit right into a 4 lamp hi-beam tub. 100watts, 200,000 candlepower. This was long before modern technology brought us halogen and other high tech lamps

I'll tell ya one thing. people didn't bother you with high beams

The guy that owned it was 60 something & he was from Montreal. I'm sure he knew what it 'should' look like but he was enjoying it this way. Didn't want his picture taken.

I love the humour & the comments thanks for looking.
