Buy what you want, but please do a thorough comparison of the two. Basing a $3000 decision on nothing but the MP count would be stupid.

And don't forget to include the price of lenses in your comparison.

I have been a Canon user for many years....only trying Nikon for a stint...then back to Canon. The lens that is in the kit really does nothing for me.....so, I am comparing 2499.99 vs. 2999.99 I am looking forward to manufactures keeping pace and us consumers winning out....hence the asking for the 5D drop. I think Canon made there money on the 5D, techno is passing it by, sell the kit for say...2799.00 and the body for 1599.00 Thats enough coin to sway me.

Just hang tight...I am sure there will be a drop of some sort. If you can't wait, then ask your local camera shops. The one I deal with has a 60 day price assurance. If you find it cheaper at their store within 60 days of purchase they will refund you the difference.

ETA: For $1599 I'd probably get two...lol

what they ment with compare the lenses was sure the sony saves you $500 on the body compared to the canon but how much more are yo going to spend on lenses compared to the canon? how few lenses are out there for the sony?

30D & 28-135 kit lens, 50mm F/1.8 MKII, monopod, tipod w/pan tilt head, 430EX w/ sto-fen omni bounce,

On the brown truck, due 10/26 ... 70-200 2.8L IS :D

More specifically:

70-200mm f/2.8 = $1800, 24-70mm f/2.8 = $1750, 300mm f/2.8 = $6000

And as for technology passing the 5D, the only thing the Sony has over the 5D is MP count. In every other criteria the Sony is either merely caught up with the 5D or is still lagging behind it. And the replacement for the 5D is just around the corner.

krb...so the 5d has IS built in? 1080p output for studio and showmanship viewing, ISO 50-6400, but the lenses are quite high for the Sony........I do want the 5D, or did you miss that....just ont think its worth its high price. The techno was way cool when it came out, the markIIIs is just a car price away.....just looking for a new 5D for a respectable price from Canon.

In-lens IS is supperior to in-body IS, dedicated camcorders are much better for video and the images I've seen posted from the Sony, especially at higher ISO, have been horribly noisy.

does the Sony come with a well respected $1000 lens? I don't think so...
