I'm not one for the argument that three sections are always better than four sections. In lower quality tripods, this may be a relevant criterion to consider. However, with the Gitzo line, I don't see it as being a deal breaker for me. I went with the GT2540 Mountainer simply because it folds up a few inches shorter than the GT2530 (now 2531). For my style of travel (backpacking), this makes a big difference as there's less chance of me catching the tripod head on branches or rock walls. And with the G-locks, opening is extremely simple...I can set it up in under 10 seconds. Compared to a friend's GT2530, I don't see any noticeable differences in stability. The 2540 also holds up extremely well in rushing water, from a stability standpoint. When people wonder why Gitzo's cost a bit more than their knockoffs, this is just one of the reasons why.

Rather than making us guess, it would be much more productive if you state what you want. More intelligent responses can be offered if we have better information.

My mistake sorry

Didn't you already have a (few?) Gitzo's?
What purpose do you want this one for?

Also: Using the Multi Quote button

might keep things a bit better readable.

Yes i have 2 Gitzo tripods so far:
GT5540LS
GT1540T

for above tripods, the 5540 is the best tripod i have so far and i don't need something else, but it is not good for travel, little heavy and not folded to smaller i want.
1540T is a great lightweight tripod, very good tripod for carrying in travel, but it is not sturdy, and i have to open it up all to reach my eye level so this will losing more stability, and even i read it can carry load about 4kg [not 8kg], so it will not be good enough for my 1-series and 70-200IS in most conditions, so my new looking will be something in between, good tripod for travel that can fold smaller that those 3 and 5 series, and lightweight, and it can reach to or closer to my eye level without to open it all.

In addition, I don't know how to use multiquote.

I agree with you 100%, i have 5540 and i can't see any another tripod more sturdy or stable like it, so i don't think that all tripods with 4 or 5 section are not good stability than 3 sections, Gitzo tripods were designed to be high end quality whether 3 or 4 or 5 sections legs.

Press the multiquote button

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'text/html'
on each post you want to quote. It will then look like this:
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'text/html'
, press the quote button on the last post you want to quote.

All posts will be quoted after each other, I think even in sequence clicked :)

As for the tripod: If you have a 1540T and a 5 series, I'd go for a 2541 with Markins M10. Maybe a 3540XLS if you need the heigth. (Group shots)

As I see it, you have options. A 2 series is definitely more stable than a the 1 series. Yet it is not that much more weight. You can couple it with a Q3 or M10. Another option is to sell your 1540T and get a 1540 which is more stable than the 1540T. It is also taller than the 1540T. Use your Q3 on it and you have a similiar weight setup as the 1540T. You lose a little of the compactness of the 1540T.

OK, i try this multiquote first time, and i think it is working.

So that i posted more of 2 series above, and few of 1 series.
3540XLS is similar to 5540LS, not a choice for travel for me.
I will check 2 series and as you mention of 1540, i will not sell my 1540T now, i may use it as a backup for others if i travel with some no have tripods.

There are: 2451EX, and 2541, and 2541G, so which one of those 4 is good choice?

And do you prefer M10 or RRS BH-40?

1540 is out of stock [It seems also discontinued] and replaced by 1541, but what with Geared model, do you go with it?

really those 2 tripods [2541 and 1541] both are good choices, folding to a good length [50s cm] and can take load of 8-12kg, and weight about 1-1.8kgs, both can be worthy.
