Please help me with remote control for XTi

I want to purchase a remote to trigger my camera when I am using a tripod. I an a total newbie at this and I have no idea what to look for. I see some are wireless, some wired. I think I will just use it for landscape shots when I am using a tripod--just to decrease the camera shake. Can someone tell me what I should be looking for when I research these?

I recommend the wireless RC-1 (http://www.amazon.com …ics&qid=1221591​316&sr=8-1). It's a mere $20 and is small and versatile. You can set it to take photos immediately or 2-second delay. It works with mirror lockup (set it on 2-second delay). And on BULB mode, the first click opens the shutter and the second closes it. It has a range of about 15 or 20 feet from what I remember and is excellent for group photos.

The RC-1 also comes with a bit that attaches the remote onto the camera strap when not in use.

The only issue is that the sensor is on the front right side of the camera (for group pictures). That means if you are taking photos from behind the camera, you have to reach your arm around the front to click the remote. This is a very minor issue and I've never felt bothered or troubled by this extra consideration.

I'm happy with my RC-1, but if I knew about the one offered on procameragear sooner I would have gone with that one! You can't beat a radio remote!! You won't have to stand in front of your camera to trigger it like you do with an infrared remote.

I have the RS-60E3... seems to do just fine for me. The cable isn't that long but i read somewhere that you can get an extension for it. If you're just using it for landscapes to reduce camera shake and are planning on being near the camera anyway then that will work just fine. It's really inexpensive too... got mine from BH Photo and Video

For those of you with the under $10 remotes, did you have to do anything special with the camera to get it to work? I recently purchased one and it doesn't work ...

Switch it to self-timer/wireless remote mode.

If so, do they match?

Once nice thing about the RC-1 compared to third-party wireless remote triggers is that it doesn't required an extra piece for the hotshoe. You can whip it out very easily (I keep mine on the strap), set your camera to timer mode and fire away just like that. I'm the sort of person who likes to travel light and if something is troublesome to use, I'm less likely to use it.

Also, I've never had a situation where radio would have benefited me more so than IR, although I'm sure it would be useful for some people.

Get the Phottix Cleon from ebay.. i have one .. i'll review it one of these days..

Its wireless via radio freq. so no need for this reaching around the front of the camera business. Also the receiver doubles as a wired remote so you're getting 2 remotes for the price of one. definitely worth looking into.

You'll have to specify where exactly that is so I can check lol

and yes I've switched the camera to self/timer-remote function.
