I've never attached an image to this forum before, so I hope this works...

I was at the end of a 12-day hiking trip in Yellowstone last Saturday night and went out to Artist Point about an hour after sunset. I knew the nearly full moon would hinder good star photos, but I was surprised what a 6-min exposure looked like! I got the canyon lit by moonlight and some star trails -- as well as the lower falls (which I couldn't see by eye at all).

This is my first attempt at a night shot and I'm impressed at what the sensor will record. :) Trust me, even with a bright moon rising behind me, I needed my headlamp to see and set the camera. I'm ready to do some more long exposure shots after this little experiment.

Feel free to C&C -- just keep in mind that I couldn't see much to compose the image. ;)

great shot!
I would try pulling some of the shadow detail out in a levels layer... it's a good exposure under the conditions, though...

I am going to be there next week... I don't have quite as much time to backpack as you did, but I do plan on a 3-day backcountry hike... any recommendations?

Nice shot. It's pretty amazing.

Worth the hike, I must say. Very nice. A little hot, behind the branches, but hey...it's 6 minutes...hehe.
