Very nice quality photograph, I think the victim is a Collared Dove. Was it alive or dead when the Sparrowhawk was eating it?

Very dramatic! Just a great series and I am glad you shared. I walked out of my house for a a SS was up in a pine tree. It squawked and I thought it was a Blue Jay, till I saw him sitting proud.

I would just happy to start the day with a bird watching experience. (although it made me 10 minutes late)

It was dead. It must have already been in the garden for a good 10 mins or so, as it was in the middle of the garden plucking all the feathers when I spotted it. There was already a huge amount of feathers on the lawn at that stage. As I was getting the gear ready to step outside for some shots, it had tried to fly off, but dropped it's lunch at the end of the garden, so resumed the plucking, and then the eating, there, and that's where these pics were taken.

Once again, thanks for all the comments. This is the second time we've had this happen in about a year - never seen it before in my life, then two recently!
