Canon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 EF-S IS ($699 USD estimated, October release)
Tamron 18-270 f3.5-6.3 Di-II VC ($599 USD estimated, October release)
Sigma 18-200 f3.5-6.3 DC OS ($449 USD, currently available)

These 3 lenses are very similar in most ways: 72mm filter size, approx 3-4 stop stabilizers, approximately 600 grams each (the Tamron is lightest at 550 grams), metal mounts, similar MFD and magnification, lack ring AF (use micro motor), designed for APS-C sensors (though the Tamron and Sigma will mount on all bodies). The Tamron and Sigma come with hoods, and the Tamron obviously gets you to 270mm.

So, which one interests you the most? Which would you buy between these 3 options? Which will you buy?! Let the official poll begin...

The one with USM.

Oh wait.

The Sigma, then. Lower cost and probably the best build of the three.

The suggested price on the Canon is really simply too high. I expect good things out of the Tamron when it comes out based on reviews of its past super zooms, and the Sigma works very, very well and is much less expensive. If the Canon had USM, it would grade a bit better in my book, but I have found the IQ of the Sigma to be very nice, and expect no less out of the Tamron, so I don't see what Canon offers above these other two for the price increase.

Is it me or does the Canon seem like the most expensive non-L lens behind the 17-55? At that price, I would expect USM and at least the better consumer build quality (not the kit lens quality).

270mm will be useless in a superzoom, I can hardly tell the difference between 125 and 200mm on my Sigma 18-200. The Canon is far too expensive, which leaves the Sigma the one to get. (I don't mind mine..)

i chose the canon because i simply detest sigma lenses and i think that tamron stretching the lens to 270mm is a bit too far. in most cases, i would always go with the tamron first but my brain told me to vote the canon on this one.

All of these try to do too much and will end up doing it badly. This is a lens for the P&S generation used to 10x optical zoom. The same generation who will not mind the IQ from these lenses and would not know what to do with an FTM lens anyway.

If I had to choose one, I'd get the Sigma, both my bought Sigmas have been great, no issues, both my bought canons have given me issues. I've heard of IS motors burning out but not heard of a OS motor burning out..... yet...
