I just used a brand new 85 1.8 at a volleyball game last week and got the error 99 turn off or reset the battery message at least 5 times during the match. I shot on manual, autofocus, ai servo, 10fps and got locked out. I have only experienced the error 99 message maybe 2 times since receiving the camera June 07. What do you all think? Do I have a faulty lens?

Could be. Does it happen with any other lenses? Hard to diagnose with the limited detail provided. Could have just been a fluke or dirty contacts.

It has happened so rarely that I can't remember what lens was on the camera. But this was the first time a used the 85. It seemed to lock up when I tried to do bursts. Could it be the autofocus not being able to get a lock fast enough? I was shooting at 1.8 - 2.8.

Have you tried formatting your CF/SD cards? Tried a different card?

I'll give that a try. I have 2 4gb Sandisk Extreme IV cards. I'll format and try at a tennis match tommorrow. Thanks for the advice.
