Some advice on simple headshots

Hey folks,

Later this week I have to shoot a few head shots for my friend as a favor. (its not for anthing important or for a portfollio just needed something simple for a work project.)

I was thinking maybe using my 50mm F1.8 for these shots. Here is my make shift studio. I have some studio grey seemless paper for the background. I only have my 420EX for lighting. I driffernt combintations I can try with this.

1. On the hot shoe and boucne with the omnibounce
2. On the hot shoe with lumiquest soft box
3. On light stand with umbrella and pc cord etc etc.

Which combination would you guys recomend??

also my lens choices are the 50 like I said, the kit, and my 70-300mm.

Just some advice needed.

first, the 50/1.8 is a good lens to use with the 300D.
Since you only have one flash, you'll have to use it to perform double duty. Here's something to try - set up for shoe-mount, bounce off the ceiling (I hope its a white ceiling). Tilt the flash a bit forward, maybe 60 or 75 degrees from horizontal. Use the omnibounce. Get an ordinary index card and tape or rubber-band attach it to the flash so that it is on the back of the flash body, sticking up about an inch. A bit of the light that is diffused by the omnibounce will be directed off the white card to create a "catch light" in the subject's eyes.

Practice with a plyable friend before you engage in the real thing.
