sure we don't have to use it, but i just think it takes away from what the camera is intended to be used for. i'm not sure if that's the purist in me, and more than likely it will grow on me, but couldn't they have used the technology to improve in other areas? like what? I have no idea. i'm just stating the question.

your points are very valid, and have opened my eyes to it a little now.

i don't use 1/100 of the features on my cell phone and if i'm not mistaken my 1d mark III has live view and i don't even know how to turn it on :D.

i just ignore the stuff that doesn't pertain to me. perhaps a wedding photographer would appreciate being able to take video clips :D?

I'm still not seeing Lens Microadjusments. Is it just me, or does it look like this feature did not make it?

.mov based on mpeg4 format. So not brilliant, but OK (mpeg 2 would be better).

AVCHD is not terrible these days.

The quality of the clips off the Korean site is quite simply: Stunning...

I'd have bet all five of my Emmys that quality this good was a long way off but...

It may not be broadcast quality (yet) but it's certainly far beyond simply YouTube .. WebCast level.

Wow...

Read the press release from Canon, it's there.

I'm not planning to get a full frame any time soon, but this tidbit from Rob Galbraith seemed interesting:

"The 5D and 5D Mark II share one other notable AF hardware similarity: both utilize a dedicated microprocessor to perform AF calculations (in contrast, Canon's Mark III models, for example, utilize DIGIC III for this).

The 5D Mark II does include two changes in its AF system, relative to the 5D: it now has the ability to detect scene colour temperature and light flicker, then incorporate that as part of the camera's autotofocus calculation, plus AF Microadjustment, to compensate for focus calibration error in the camera body or combination of body and attached lens, has been added. "

Well, it looks like a decent upgrade on all fronts, except maybe autofocus capability. It definitely isn't Revolutionary, just Evolutionary, as the teaser promised. I certainly won't be looking at this as any sort of potential upgrade from my older 1-series (45pt AF and full sealing would have done that for me).

I must say though, there have been times when I wished for video on my camera, and ended up making 8.5 fps movies at the ~1080P JPEG-L setting. So I don't mind the new trend of including video, as long as they don't cripple any other functions to include it.

Canon, just give me more updated lenses and I'll be happy for years to come.

Just because the AF still has 9 points doesn't mean it hasn't improved!

I've got a feeling the AF on this will be a lot better than people think.

People (seem to be) thinking it is 3 fsp, when it is more like 4 fps (still not brilliant but OK) and the AF automatically sucks because it has "only" 9 points.

I think we'd better wait and see on the AF. 9 points doesn't mean it will suck (maybe it does, who knows).

:D

Anyone notice the "B" on the mode dial, above the "M" (Manual) and below the "C1" (Custom 1)? I have never heard of B mode before. Do we know what it is for?

Is this what you're looking for?

AF micro adjustment * • Adjust all lenses by same amount (effectively body adjustment)
• Adjust up to 20 lenses individually

It's gonna be a lot more than just Wedding shooters Ed...

I completely understand that I'm watching clips on a 1920x monitor but c'mon, 1024p @ 30fps is a damn sight better than just YouTube or WebCast applicable.

Clips from this body will make broadcast air in very short order.

I think you misunderstood them. From Canon's announcement...

"The full-frame sensor maximizes the performance of Canon EF lenses, the world's largest selection of autofocus lenses."

It doesn't mention anything of accepting EFs lenses. Geez, did this thread move along that fast?
Well, now that I'm subscribed, I might as well vent my confusion as to why they would include that "creative auto mode" on a camera of this magnitude. I'm sure it's been brought up, but I'm sure there's already about 25 posts after mine by now, so I don't think this matters anymore anyways. Oh well, at least I have a little part of this thread.

I will actually be trying to use this in conjunction with my XL2. I think they may actually match.

For special effects shots, it's going to be awesome.

I've definitely been turned on the issue of video on a DSLR.
