Ha, beat you by 1 minute

My heart is still pounding. WOW WOW WOW!

Do you think that I should buy the 5D MK II and get rid of my Canon 1Ds MK II, is the 5D a better camera than the one I have already?

Don't ask me, I'm fast not smart. :)

If I were you I'd wait and see what happens with the black dots issue.

I just thought you might know as you started this forum. That's ok, I don't think they are even out yet in NZ. The rest of the world can trial them and let us know what is wrong with it. Thanks anyway.

I started this thread... not the forum. ;) Pekka did that.

From what I've seen the photos from it are very good. But I have little experience with the 1D s Mkii. I can't assume it would be better or worse. The 5Dmkii does have some minor teething problems* though (mainly black dots around blown highlight points).

Which may or may not be a problem depending on what you shoot.

You can go here: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=609860

To read about that.

* how minor they are remains to be seen. If a fix requires a recall, that could cause problems. If it's a new firmware fix, that's not such a big problem.

It's a new technology, there are bound to be a few problems. I don't own either of the products you're talking about. :)

Thanks for your help. Any sign of problems and I may as well wait for them to be ironed out first as I don't need another camera, the Canon Techs have told me to buy it, so I guess they are just pushing their new product.

I think your 1Dsmkii coupled with your primes is going to keep you happy in the mean time. ;)

Yeah, they are alright. It would be much better if I knew how to use them properly.

Not that I've owned either of them, but I would keep the 1Ds mkII. If you didn't already own it the fight would be somewhat of a tie. I guess it depends if AF and built quality or video mode and super high pushed-to-the-limit ISO is more important to you.

So far, I am absolutely loving my 5DMII. But, to those who already have it, I want to ask whether you notice whether the CF Card Door creaks a little when it is closed and you are holding the camera. For the most part, the camera is rock solid, but that door just doesn't feel as much.

Yes it creaks, yes it's pissing me off. I don't remember my 5D doing this. But I also didn't remember my 40D doing it either, but my 5Dii does... It's the bottom of the door, and only if I press it in from the back towards the front of the body... Pressing from the right in towards the back it's fine.

I've been wondering if I were to put a little more padding in there (like their seal material, only a TINY strip) it might stop it? Basically we're hearing the plastic rubbing on the body. Some bodies will be tighter there, some won't, so some sort of adjustment will solve the issue for sure. I just don't want to compromise the existing seal and I'm not going to sand down any existing parts....

Thanks you guys a whole bunch !!!

Cali, also if you want to use whatever PS or LR you have now, adobe offers a FREE DNG converter. DNGs are bigger than RAWs but you can use old PS or LR with 5Dii files if you want:

PC:

it's out there for mac too.

I tried my hardest to make any creaking noises.. didn't hear any... my CF card door is very solid.

Try some WD40? ;)

Seriously though... a small amount of lubricant could fix that up?

Yeah, not sure how I should feel about this either, but I do agree that it is only when pressing the door towards the front of the hand grip, which is normally what happens when gripping the body.

It doesn't creek so much as sounds/feels like it is rubbing against the rest of the body. Like, when I slide the door out and open it, it's silent and smooth. It's just when it is closed and you press it forward (from the back part of the door) do I feel the 'creek'.

Again, nothing critical. I just wanted to see whether I was the only one.

yeah, that's what I'm unsure of though. Lube would quiet it, but why does it creak? I'd imagine a creak is due to too much play in my door/body joint. So if I fill that extra space it'll stop right? I want to fix it, not just shut it up if you know what I mean....

oh, and another thing. Can canon get it's head out of it's ass and give me a camera that when I tell it to use continuous file numbering, it ACTUALLY DOES IT? Somehow my 5Dii picked up where my 40D left off and now it giving me files in the img_33xx range instead of img_05xx.... I swear I never even swapped cards since this has burned me (and pissed me off) in the past. (at canon)
