I am going to be honest here and say those look like poo. Is it that hard to get something, anything in focus? I looked and not one of those pictures was ANYTHING in focus. Was this person blind?

It is hard to tell but I will wait to see actual real life shots that are in focus when using high iso.

I agree. Those are completely useless.

Canon says it will have the best I.Q. and best at high iso then any other Camera they have made, that is worth the price in itself, If you want fps get a 1d the 5d never was a sports camera!

Well that will really please all the 1DS MK3 users who spent up to £6k getting one that is only 9 months old

Photographic Images on Brett Butler (external link) px500 (external link) & Flickr (external link) Some Canon Bodies , few blackish lenses, A dam heavy black one, couple dirty white ones, a 3 legged walking stick, a mono walking stick, and a bag full of rubbish

I don't think Canon has the luxury to care about that right now. They've got some stiff competition which they're not used to.

anyone else notice the camera does not even pan in any of these sample shots? i suspect it to be hardly any better than the D90 in handling the "rolling shutter" effect.

my bet is there is some jelly distortion in motion.

i will have to admit, the DoF of the 85mm 1.2L II video is astounding; but i think an XH A1 + Letus Extreme + 85mm 1.2L II can be MUCH more versatile.

If you look at the first post in this thread there's a video sample that pans.

Maybe, but then if they were really worried about competition, I think the 5D MK2 would be a little different, to compete with the D700

I thought I read that the 5D II only has +-2 Exposure Compensation?
According to this page, it's +-4.

Unless that's only for bracketing, which I don't think it would be.

I think it is +/-2, but with exposure comp + bracketing you can get a total range of +/-4

Maybe Canon is taking it slow and steady. I'm sure they don't want the 5D mk2 to be a 1D mk3 2.0.

I don't think it has to compete directly with the D700 at all. They're offering a compelling alternative for less money... they're still being competitive, it's just not offering a D700 at a D700 price like so many people here and elsewhere inexplicably desired. I really think people would whine no matter what Canon announced unless it was a 1Ds MK IV at a 5D price.

I certainly don't think the 5D2 is perfect, if there was one thing I'd change I'd like to see a different AF system (although my ideal is currently not offered by any manufacturer and I'm not asking for even 20 AF points).

It is a gimmick
the DSLR doesnt have XLR mic inputs does it?

No, but since balanced audio only makes sense in situations where you're using cable runs over 10m or more, you'll have to explain why you think that would be of any use in an SLR. Where exactly do you suggest Canon locate a pair of honking great XLR connectors on the body? It does have an unbalanced stereo input.

Does it have 2 channel audio?

Yes.

Does it shoot variable frame rate?

This is one issue that will be of importance to those who want to deliver SD video in a PAL market (any decent HDTV set should be capable of handling 1080p30 just fine). There's no nice way of converting 30 to 25, and the Canon Europe press release only mentions 30fps.

It is a novelty item that will be good for the paparazi.

Only of use to professional photographers who get paid huge sums for the right shot? Well, OK...

The point of those photos is to show off the noise, not the focus of the image.

I seriously almost replied elsewhere that "I can't imagine Pekka adding a seperate Video section". I deleted it before posting thinking that would never happen. Time to stick my foot in my mouth.

Looks like a halfway decent upgrade. May have to pick one up while waiting for the new 1 series.
