gapless microlens = not in this camera

It does use a similar technology, from DPR:

Reduced micro lens gap
Canon have stated that the gap between microlenses has been reduced compared to the original EOS 5D, although there is still some gap (the EOS 50D has a 'gapless' design). We are guessing that the gap has been maintained to enable a shifted pattern near the corners of the frame (which helps reduce fall-off on such large sensors).

Thanks, I had looked at that Video 2 a few times, but didn't even notice it was panning.

vignette correction = seriously, what a selling point.
gapless microlens = not in this camera
buffer = I shoot raw, and 13 ain't a lot

I agree with vignette thing, so easy to fix in PP.

Gapless microlens = are you sure? I can't find the information that says it has it or not. If you can point me somewhere that'd be good. :D

Edit: I see the post above. Apparently reduced gaps.

14 frames in raw (according to the press release). Is OK for me. Do you think sRAW will increase this? I doubt it myself.

It's not totally gapless, but it is reduced.

Ok... I know... How about the gapless microlens array?

The 50D has gapless micro lenses, but the 5D Mk II does not.

This video is a little boring, but he mentions the microlens thing. It is not totally gapless, because there is some issue with increased vignetting on a FF sensor or something like that.

They added a bunch of "features" and they updated the electronics...but the mechanics of the camera...you know, the photography part, remains largely unchanged. How is it hard to see that this is not just a little bit disappointing?

It does have a new shutter, the only that hasn't changed is more AF points. It's not going to be worse than the current 5D which does a good job with what is has.

True on the shutter...and I know, I had a 5D until yesterday. Lag time/mirror black out hasn't changed either. The 5D is probably the slowest by a fair margin in this price/performance league.

Came across this article on flickr forums. Though the 5DMKII is a better camera, was it intentionally under featured? Have a lookie.

Wow, hundreds of posts later, people keep rehashing the same arguments over and over. I think most people are happy with the 5DII with a few people not so much.

That's over a thousand, no one is going to read every post.

In spite of the supposed held-back of development, it will be interesting to see if Canon has managed to make history repeat itself, i.e. create a camera which has image quality enough to make itself a viable choice from that point of view only. Clearly, there are alternatives with features the Canon 5D Mark II doesn't have, so the merits it does have have to be substantial enough to motivate the existence of the camera.

I'll guess we'll all know in a while.
