Apologies if this was already asked and answered but does anyone know if the 5D mkII is going to be made in Japan or have they gone off shore to keep the costs down?

I'd hate to think they're putting these things together with 13 cent an hour Chinese labor!

Cheers!

It certainly has much more replies than the 50D thread. Does it mean 5D MK II is gonna sell a lot better than the 50D? ;)

Just found out it's gonna cost $2800 CAD is Canada. It's actually cheaper than the US price at today's exchange rate. I finally don't need to import my gear from the US :D

I guess I'm the only one who uses the lower fps selection on my 40D? If you don't shoot sports, it's largely unneeded.

Me thinks there are many in this forum that are going pure specs without ever using / needing what they are asking for.

I shoot people, I perfer a slower fps rate, as you do, because I don't need 15 throw aways every few seconds.

Canon Canada seems to play games, offering bodies at competitive prices to the States and then boning us on lenses and accessories though they do have a handful of lenses which are close enough to not make it worth the effort of buying on-line from the States. You really have to wait for rebate promotions to get a square deal out of them up here.

Yes, I'm not impressed with them! :p

Cheers!

Yes, this camera is for a certain group of photographers. There are different cameras for different people.

People are mainly comparing to what they could get with the D700 though I think.

Grass being greener and all.

I'm not reading through 25 pages, but where are all the people that are hating on it because it makes movies... or is it OK because it's a canon...

If you don't want to read the posts, why bother looking for things? They are there... read the posts. Did you want someone to link you to individual posts?

I'm changing my mind on the movie mode. I wouldn't use it for any serious photography frame captures or videography work but it would be nice to have with the kid here. And the high ISOs looks very appealing... but damn them with their old school AF... if you had just improved the outer points, you'd eliminate half of the **** here.

Outer AF points are good for weddings, portraits, etc, all the target markets for this camera. Why would they use "AI Servo tracking" as the excuse for keeping the old style AF points?

Maybe you should go back and read those 25 pages.

I think that's odd too. For me (landscapes, architecture mostly) the center point is all I generally use so it's fine but if you're marketing this to wedding photogs and people shooting portraits it does seem like a mistake.

Of course. There are people hating it for just about every change they made to it, and didn't make to it.

When I first heard about video on a DSLR I was in the hating crowd; but now I think it'll be a fun to play around with and possibly very handy at times.

Let's hope some miracles happen over at Canon and they've improve to outer points somehow.

I'm with you on the movie mode. I thought it would be stupid at first, but I'm liking the idea now. :D

I mainly shoot people I guess, I use the middle one and recompose. I rarely use the other points, because I like to shoot in landscape then switch to portrait (like 50/50 seriously). So selecting the other point just slows me down.

I can see the point though (stupid pun intended).

You can select sRAW1 (to make them 10mp) or sRAW2 (to make it around 5 mp) so it doesn't really matter. :D

Curious - new to all this sRaw, how does that compair to say a L-Fine JPG? Is the sRAW compressed, or how is it made?

You don't have to read through 25 pages. It's only around 81 pages now.
