And Canon have apparently taken out an add in Practical Photography hinting at a new product?

i kinda hope the 1D is under 21mp...14-16mp range I think is plenty for the 1D leave the crazy pixels to the 1Ds

Whoa, exactly my thought! I could use 26MP in my 1DsMIII but 16MP would be perfect for my 1DMIIIs. I just hope they keep that video stuff out of it and use the capacity for improving the AF.

21MP FF seems likely to me, since the 1Ds Mark IV is coming out with a higher res soon anyway.

ISO is way, way sci-fi. I'm thinking ISO range same as 5DII

LCD will be same as 5DII, i.e. 3" VGA, not 3.5".

4 card slots? Ok, this is just getting batty.

Heathen! Blasphemer! Dirt bag!

How dare you mock what 76 bajillion Canon worshippers have been praying to the digital gods for 27 centuries for.

PS. FWIW, I agree entirely. From the sounds of it, that makes about 2 of us who have our heads screwed on right.

There, that outta bring on the catcalls...

Capacity for AF and video are not related.
The more features the better.
Perhaps they can make cameras without LCD's for people who want fewer state of the art features. :)

Except, of course, that they are in deep and relentless competition for R&D time and dollars, and there's all but trench-warfare between features and price point. Canon's not going to give us anything for free, and when it comes down do it, I'd rather see the 1 series design group spend their limited resources (and, by extension, our final price-tag) on developing better AF and processors than on integrating gimicks. DSLR HD video may well be nice and all and it certainly has a niche, but it's going to be a long, long while before it's mature enough to really have a place in the 1 series that's on equal footing with IQ, fps, AF, ISO performance, ect. These are pro bodies that, despite their widespread hobyist use, are intended for people to make a living and a career with. There has got to be priorities, and video isn't on the list ATM.

While it's another heresy, the *exact* same thing is true of LCDs displays. Until they can show true RAW sharpness (and not a zoomed thumbnail) with calibrated color, please don't encourage them to waste more of my money on something that's only going to drive the menus and a histogram.

If you say so.

BTW, how's that DPOF working out for you?

Very limited/boxed evolutionary view...

...Already a good chunk of effort has been put into AF and processors (a LOT of effort, indeed).

...Dude, HD video has matured and evolved ALREADY on its own track, with its own body of standards for video, audio, etc., and its quality is already BOOSTED by using a sensor such as that loaded on a 1D-class cam, instead of the poor/limited implementations used in pro and consumer video-cams. It is precisely now that it makes sense to add it to the 1D-series, since its evolution has nothing to do with the 1D or viceversa.

The argument of video or no video is absolutely pointless and bandwidth wasting: if you do not want the feature, do not use it. No one is putting a gun on your chest to use it.

As for the rest of us, video is more than welcome!:D

Yup, video in a still camera is a senseless complication.

..Definitely!

In fact: let them have a film camera, instead, with a back-LCD for highlights warning via LiveView... so they can stick to the basics (why going digital, after all?)
