OOh look! The mountain! I had to drive up it until I hit snow to actually see it when I went to a Motorhead concert last year.
Speaking of which - NEVER go along the forgotten highway to Taumaranui - it takes 3 hours of windy roads to get there - with the little town of Whangamomoana in the middle.

Great place to be with the kids, Pete :) I'm sure you and the family will love it :)

I have been here for just over a week now and only seen the mountain twice, apparently that is quite normal

Have heard about that highway and the 'Republic of Whangamomoana', the road from Hamilton isn't that hot either, especially Mount Messenger.

Can't wait to get the family down here, so much to see and do, Elizabeth starts school in Feb too.

LOL @ Harroz

Pete - many many shots to follow, of family fun in the Naki - I expect :)

Billy Connelley is here next year - 4 x tickets to Vector Arena in March is pricey, but purchased :)

Just drove it last week. Love the little post and wire fences that at least would wake you up if you drove off the road so you could enjoy the long fall.

Hiya Pete,
Good to see you've taken the relaxed approach to life.

Good luck with the 70-200
I was eyeing up a lighter version myself, as the 120-300 is a bit cumbersome at times.
Instead..ended up buying an 85 1.2 L on Friday through Auckland Camera - thanks to Nick, who's also now in London and his dad who cut me a good deal. Just can't use it till January! :o

rendezvous aka Daniel stays in Palmerston North, but has been in Canada the past couple of weeks, nearly getting arrested for taking photos of planes :p

a joke stolen from another thread...

A Maori fulla had a bucket full of small crays - and was stopped by a Fish and Game Warden.

"Excuse me sir, those crays are undersized! I can betcha none of those crays are over 50mm so I'll have to fine you $1,000 and ban you from this beach FOREVER!"

"But bro - these aren't just 'CRAYFISH' ... these are my pets!" ... the Warden is unimpressed and proceeds to pull out his ruler.

"Honest! These are my pets. I bring them down to the beach everyday for a swim, when I whistle...they come crawling back - jump in the bucket and we go home ... HERE watch this!"

The Warden, still unconvinced but slightly amused - watches as the bloke proceeds to tell the crays one-by-one to 'behave' and 'just come back when I whistle'.

"AHA!" Exclaimed the Warden "Let's see you call your crayfish back NOW!"

"What crayfish!!!?"

;)

You back over this way now, or is that what happens in January? I wouldn't think a 85 1.2L really qualifies as lighter lens!

Opps was always getting New Plymouth and Palmerston North mixed up, got that sorted now, funny quite a few other people I know get the two mixed up as well!

I actually leave Sunday 7th December.
Going to Melbourne for a month, going to hire a car/camper in Hobart and drive around Tasmania for 4-5 days with a friend - just plotting best places to visit now, but more likely to hire a camper, as can park right outside the scenery for landscapes.

Also got a family trip to the twelve apostles,
http://en.wikipedia.org …ge:TwelveApostles-Gaz.jpg (external link)

Finally after spending Christmas/New Years with my mum and sisters, will head to NZ on 4th Jan till 4th April - and overwork that new lens. Try and find a duck shot :p

Just last night I ordered some new Lee and Hitech 100mm filter sets, for the purpose of Australia and NZ landscapes over the next 4 months. Better be worth it! $700

I'll let you know if I end up near Taranaki at any point, as well as Mark (Harroz)

Time to pop in and say 'hi' as I do from time to time. Big news in my side of things is I am no longer in Auckland! So I am only really interested in GKPE events down in the Naki :D

Oh by the way, Shona spotted some of Mommentz shots on one of her web forums!

Probably the OhBaby website.. i've taken photos for what seems like half that forum now :P :)

Weka Needs a favor:

I need some samples of landscape websites that members think are outstanding.

Also if you could tell me what it is that makes it stand out (Breifly)

TIA

I like the front page but the gallerys seem to drop a level. This guy has produced 2 nice coffee books that are done in a landscape format.
His site seems to be done in php which I dont know. Also im not wanting a "sales" side to it, more of a portfolio

Webdesign and layout. Presentation etc.
For photography inspiration I go to DA or photo.net

The gallery is the hardest bit.

Im no web designer. I do see things that give me ideas that help. I then pull them apart to understand how they work. I cant program either so very much html and css via dreamweaver is my limit.
