Dave quick question. Why would someone use MF (medium format) lens on a 35mm?

Just reading a landscape photograher who swares buy them but didnt say why.
Can they be stopped down a lot more before defraction (think thats the word) kicks in

The only reason I can see someone doing this (beside already owning the lenses and wanting to use what you own) is there are shift adapters for some MF lenses (Hasselblad had them) so you could use the lenses to shift (and I think they had some tilt). The MF lens would cover a 35 mm format.

Defraction is more related to your format so that would not matter. Many times larger format lenses had less resolving power compared to smaller format lenses but that was not a problem as the negs were enlarged less usually (which is also why you can stop down more on a large format lens before diffraction becomes an issue). That would work against them but lens design has gotten better.

I am not sure I believe that somehow. You have too much hair to be the Stig.

Yeah chose the Foundation kit (comes with a 4 slot holder, although 3 are only usable thickness)

77mm adapter ring

Very nice sleeves for keeping them unscratched (my Cokin's are wrecked to hell)

And Hitech grads - around half the price of Lee filters, still around $75 a single filter
(may one day upgrade, but for now, $700 was enough for this setup!)

Chose 3 soft ones, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9
Hard edge 0.6
And a 1.2 ND for slower shutter speeds.

Twelve days till Melbourne/Tasmania, can't wait.

Resin!

If they were glass, each filter would be worth $500 :p
These are hand made resin, £29+VAT each = $95

The cokin 1's scratch easy. I also think they throw a out a sight colour cast.

Slight.. is a slight understatement ;)

I'll give both my current Cokin P and this new set a proper test in Melbourne city before proper landscape shots around the coast and Tasmania

Funnily enough, I only find that a problem if I combine two of them together. Although the darker it gets, the more purple they seem to get too.

I still want my ND100 - which apparently is a 13 stopper or something (can't quite remember the exact amount)

Yeah seen the results of the ND100 too, very awesome during daylight!

I always stack mine - and also tried doing an ND filter with ND grad with disastrous results. So never used the standard ND since.
