Mark, did it rain at all there? I can't imagine the circuit would be much fun in the wet on a bike.

You got the processing bug Moppie?

No rain, track was damp though but the ran pace cars around for about 30 minutes & it dried up nicely. But your right, not a place I would want to be in the wet!

Certainly do'able, camp on site, be a great weekend!

Speaking of which, where is our GKPE schedule? we haven't been too good at keeping it up.

I'm keen for another trip/what-have-you.

Time to hit the hay, talk to you latter.

Hence why I grabbed a 5dII this morning, I was in Harvey Norman visiting a good mate and he gave me a price I couldn't refuse and had the box in his hand waving it around. I figured it was too good to pass up and If I decide the upgrade over the 40D isn't worth the $4k to me then I'll just flick it on in a few months as they will be retailing for $5999 aparently.

Would love to take the 40D to Iron Maiden tonight but am pretty sure it would get taken off me / me not allowed in.

Congrats. Sounds like a good investment.
I'm still happy with the 40D.. Some time in the future there might be one in my camera bag but I'm not in a rush.

Reflective visors are quite cool!

But, eyes are good too!

QUOTED IMAGE

Very excellent. Nice seeing the eyes. I agree the reflective visor also looks cool.

Thanks Moppie, that was a few from the first 100 or so that I have looked at, many many more to go through.

I think we should make it a GKPE weekend next year!

Hey you made it!! Great stuff . Had no idea what you looked like so don't know if we crossed paths or not.

Great photo's and a fantastic entry into motorbike racing event photography;).

No problem at all.

I actually like the event but it concerns me that the people walking up & down the footpath, either side of the main straight are not even looking at the bikes!. Bit of plastic (hopefully waterfilled) barrier and some very light weight poorly supported mesh fence between them & the riders. Bikes doing close to 280km at the end of the straight and you can be within 4 feet of them!! And people are not even looking!

On boxing day at Wanganui, a rider clean cleared the barriers and went flying over them at the nasty left hander over the bridge. He did not move - and did not move all the way to the ambulance. I have not heard since how he is, but since I didn't see any "if it bleeds, it leads" type stories on the news after it, I figure he got out of it alive at least. Just two races before, I was stand right where he went off (non-public area). While I was standing there I always kept one foot behind me so I could turn fast and jump down the bank behind me into the trees. Pretty crazy stuff when you think about it really.

The start/finish straight at Wanganui is an accident waiting to happen. They only had a standard temporary fence down the front straight this year (on left hand side of road). A small curb is not enough to stop a bike travelling at 200KPH. It'll happen sooner or later......

From what i have seen of Paeroa, it's the typical street race set up (if not actually "better" than some others I have witnessed). But heck, it makes the whole deal that much more exciting.

I will go again next year but will contact the orgainisers prior, there is a spot on the inside of the hairpin coming onto the main straight that has a veranda just about out to the apex of the bend. Just dying for a remote camera hanging off the veranda looking done onto the bikes for the "gauges" shot.

I think a camera rig on a bike is actually the way to go..... now that'd be cool. We did some stuff like that recently at Pukekohe with a car - but only in pit lane and only going pretty slowly. Still got great results.

Reflections of gauges are cool in reflective visors, it's a classic karting shot (hands on wheel reflected in visor). Very cool.

Great shots too Mark, hope you had a great day.

Cliff

Dare I say it Tony, but the circuit plan looks pretty bad for togs. It might go like Taupo where you cannot get to the infield at all. I hope I am wrong - but there ain't much run off on the infield so unless refuges are built, we may not be able to go inside there at all. It would be another great shame.

Then again, Taupo has been a stuff up on so many levels that perhaps it's not worth comparing the two.
