Hi all,

long time no see.

Haven't shot anything recently, apart from half an hour in the backyard this morning, so I'll just pop back out again :p

Trying to firm up my little Europe trip plans. It's somewhat tricky trying to hit all the key spots in just a few days...

Here's the current draftish route for my first 13-15 days:
http://www.colourandlight.co.nz/blog/?p=128 (external link)

So I've got the Stelvio pass in there (roughly), so hopefully it's not completely snowed out in April... Still need to work in some of Dave's other suggestions.

The 17-55 f2.8 IS has been with Canon for 5 working days so far... Early next week I'll start phoning them daily to check on progress... Stress...

Ok, genuinely shocked. Phone call from Canon at 12:34 pm today.

The 40D has been cleaned, focus recalibrated, firmware upgraded and is on the way back to me this afternoon. No charge (must still be under warranty, or they're planning to make enough money off me from the 17-55 repair). I think I'm hallucinating, so I’ll take it with a dose of salt until I have the unit back in my hands and see no charges against my credit card. They also mentioned I’ve done 22k odd shots with it too according to the shutter count.
The 17-55 is ‘upstairs’ currently being worked on (I sent the camera and lens in separately).

Just to summarise - this is 5 working days after having sent the camera in and Canon has phoned to say it's on it's way back. Though I guess a sensor clean should be straightforward. It's the repair on the 17-55 IS I'm particularly anxious about...

*cynical*

Canon do not call anybody - obviously a prank call. Did it sound like Johno from the Rock?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I asked my unamed source at Canon if he knows of anybody with some in stock and when canon are getting some. His reply was
"Sorry no one has any. We are getting stock coming in over the next few weeks."

Looks great. Travel cards are neat (I managed to get mine at 60US c to the dollar so was quite pleased) but impossible to keep track of how much you spent. I couldn't find any ATM's that gave me the balance in the US. And when you phone national bank (who are usually amazing), they have no idea how to do it and it takes half an hour of expensive calling to discover the balance.
