Well thats ok then :)

Do you have UVfilter on your lens during these events?

That'd be a yessireee...

Got Em!!!!
There is a secret points system awarded to drivers for stoning photographers and spectators who stand in stupid places.
I believe that gets bonus points for drawing blood.

Hehe, it's my Dad that gets the bonus points then, and the funny thing is, the guy with the injuries, yeah, he works with him. Plenty of workplace mocking ahead...

Your a lucky man jasestu. Could have been an eye or the front element of a lens

I could imagine some serious damage to a lens at an event like this.

There could have been some bad damage to lens's if they didnt have UV filters, caused by paintballs alone.

How often do you run out of CF space? I have 6Gb of CF, and can't remember the last time I ran out.....probably years ago when I used to shoot hundreds of shots of anything and everything, and worry about if they were any good later.

Indeed... I guess the PSD is used when I go on long holidays... back to Manila or wherever... I took some 20gb worth of photos one time... parties, landscapes, parties, portraits, and more parties... shooting with raw and large JPEGs...

Any motorsport photogs wanna chuckle at the noob mistake (standing on the outside of a corner) that led to this little injury?

(pic links to my blog post where there's a short vid clip by the guy featured above)

Well, he will learn quickly... I'm surprised that I didn't hear him go ouch!

I know what you mean... my bro-in-law visited a few weeks ago with his new toy and my jaw almost dropped... suffice to say that I swore that I wouldn't buy one till I am making enough decent money from photography... which means by the time I can afford the 5D it will be a Mark IX:lol:

John;)

Believe... Work hard... and it will happen!

Advice please - is anyone up with the play on current point and shoots? I'm flip flopping between several models… I'm after image quality, creative control and fairly compact (i.e. rules out G10, too chunky). Panasonic LX3 would be nice, but looks like it's outta stock everywhere.
Any suggestions? Canon SX200?

LX3 is as big as the G10 what with the sticky outy lens, has cleaner high ISO but has a useless 2.5x zoom and needs a $300 viewfinder if you wanna see without the screen. I do have a bunch in stock though.

SX200 = junk. Buy the Panasonic TZ6 or TZ7 instead. Depends if you want manual control or not basically. If you do, you need one of the G10/LX3 combo, if you don't then the TZ cameras are the dog's doodahs. After that, buy an Ixus.

Don't worry mate, I didn't get an invite either, I just know about it because it is my job to know about these things ;-)a

And I didn't even know that! :p

TZ7 (Or ZS3 since I'm looking at getting someone in the states to collect it for me) is what I've been swinging more toward this evening... Why the hell do they insist on having different codes in the states, geez...

Approx USD 400 compares favourably against local purchase? Time to order some dog's doodahs..

It's because with about 0.01% exception, Americans are retards. :p

They're $799 at NZ prices.

Feel free. The few I met today made me want to never go within a thousand miles of their country! :( I'm sure there are many Americans actually that are cool, dandy and fine, but dear lord, there are some total wierdos too! ?!

What happened to the Canon A series?

It disappeared up its own ass. What was once a distinct line between Ixus and Powershot is no more. Used to be point and shoot with li-ion batteries, and manual control with AA's. Now the first three Powershots have no manual control and easy modes, they have two long zoom models, one with li-ion, one without, the one with functioning very much like an Ixus, then go to 20x zoom cameras (very nice) and the G10. Meanwhile the Ixus range get more clever and more suited to doing everything 98% of people want, and the top model has aperture/shutter speed control like its cousin the G10 which shares its sensor.

Vague now. But still all in, totally good. But honestly, the SX200 is a shadow of the TZ7, especially on the video front.

Daniel's A580 has a manual mode, but the battery life is so short that you hardly have enough time to select manual mode and set aperture and shutter speed before it shuts down....let alone actually take a photo.

I think maybe it needs a trip to canon.....

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I may be wrong, but I don't you can currently order A580's or 590's from Canon, just the A480, A1000 and A2000 and then up.

All AA battery cameras are highly fickle about which batteries they like, so if you're running it on Alkaline's, stop right now. Use Ni-MH rechargeables of as high a power as you can be assed charging, or use Lithium disposables, which although way more expensive, do last much longer.

If you're using there already and it's still dying within minutes, it's stuffed.

Hehehe! I've made what 4,000+ posts by now without a visit from the fairy, but using that quote about Americans wouldn't bother me! ;) (Not that I like starting wars you understand!)
