I would like to have a setup where I can use both off camera. would you recommend another 430ex? and since I would not have one on the hotshoe is there anything to buy to trigger these flashes?

ST-E2 transmitter. Fits right on to the hot shoe and triggers your flashes.

580EX - it's a light and a transmitter.

Negative on that...430's can only be used as slaves, not masters.

Affirmative on the mounting of the 580--it has to be mounted or you can hook up a PC cord I believe. Just get some cheap triggers...Cactus Triggers are cool and I heard good things about Yongnuo triggers.

If you use radio slaves you lose all automatic functions, and if you use cheap radio slaves you mostly end up frustrated.

Uh... I figured I'd just ask my question here. When using the 580EX, it works as IR or is it a transmitter such as used like a pocket wizard?
