I have Filezilla ftp and Core ftp included with my internet package. I have never used either one yet. However, I was looking at a printing company and they recommended Smart ftp. Both Filezilla and Core are free as they are included with my fee. Smart ftp is sold in two versions $37.00U.S and $50.00U.S.

I did a search on "download.com" and there are mixed review for both Filezilla and Core ftp but there are no reviews for Smart ftp. In the past, most of the programs or software that I have tried which were free either had advertisments all over the place or were just subpar.

Any thoughts or experiences with any of these programs or perhaps a different company?

I use Core FTP version 1.3. They are now up to 2.1, but my version is working fine on my Win XP setup.

According to their site:
http://www.coreftp.com/ (external link)

"There are no popup ads, advertising or spyware and you're never asked or reminded to register."

That's how mine works, it has a 2 sec countdown on the opening screen. That's the only nag I get. Great little free program.

FileZilla is great, don't bother buying anything.

Ditto Filezilla. I routinely use it to upload ~50MBs worth of pictures at a time to my web server.

All I have ever used if Filezilla. I never had a need to look elsewhere. I you are FTping to someone and want any from them you might want to consider following their recommendation. Filezilla is easy to use and you shouldn't have issues.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Unless you need features that it does not offer. I'll stick to WSFTP Pro, thanks. ;)

What doesn't FileZilla do? I connect to servers, I upload files - often 5 at a time. ftp's a very simple service.

What doesn't FileZilla do?

As far as I know, it lacks 256-bit AES transfer encryption (though it has some encryption support), file encryption/decryption, scheduling, auto-sync, script integration, auto-zip, and one or two other functions that are useful (sometimes vital) to professionals. It's not bad, but it's too basic for me, which is why it's free.

Once you use encryption it's not really standard ftp is it?

Anyway (to the OP) if you just want to transfer files, FileZilla works great. If you want a tool that does things other than ftp check out what Ade recommends.

Depends what you call standard. ;) I'm beginning to have to use encryption more often these days.
