Regardless of how ugly or beautiful they may be:

If the wings fold up, then its a butterfly.

If the wings fold back, then its a moth.

This is a butterfly.

Great shot of a sulfur butterfly. We have them all over down here in Florida. I have cassia trees that are the host plant for them. They are always in my yard laying eggs and getting necter.
