Fish on the school cafeteria menu for the next month.

LOL, it fill both our freezers, it will last well into next season including the frozen fish we will send out at Christmas time. To be honest, most of it will get given away as my wife is a fish bigot and wont eat anything not less then a few month old no matter how well it was professionally vacupacked...lol

Superdiver, my apologies for pinching your title for my post. Nice shots. And, holy crap that is a giant Halibut. How do you get something like that on board, a winch?

No problem, I saw that thread and thought it was mine...lol...but didnt remember naming it that....lol

Best places to fish for halibut in alaska are probably Sitka and Seward

Yup, Halibut Olympia is about my favorite, but Halibut checks is the best! The "cheacks" are really the cheack muscles from thier jaw, and on fish this big they are steak size and WONDERFUL!

Nice Fish,
All those are Pacific Halibut (Alaska Halibut would be local slang) and yes the big one is a "Barn Door".When halibut fishing one thing to remember is that every fish over 65#
is female. That big girl would produce about two million eggs/yr.Enjoy your catch!
Cover in sour cream, coat with instant potato flakes then bake. MMMM

According to Wikipedia:

A halibut is a type of flatfish (external link) from the family of the right-eye flounders (external link).

I also learned that some flounder are right sided or left sided (meaning which side is up after the eye migrates...).
