Brain fart. I meant California Halibut.

Pacific (or Alaskan Halibut) have a more pronounced squared off dorsal(?) fin and they are more rounded on the California Halibut. A couple of those look more rounded, but it's hard to say it the fin is just laid down a bit.

We get both types down here in So Cal, but mostly the California variety. I just didn't know if you guys had both types up that far.

The thing coming out of it's mouth is most likely air bladder or swim bladder...something about being brought up from way down deep and de-pressurizing.. kind of the same scenario as a human getting the bends.. it's doesn't harm the fish if you know how to fix it with a syringe.. but if you put it back in the water without letting the air out of the bladder like that it will be dead. I don't know all the technical terms but that's what it is.

that weighed 246 lbs. Took us 2 years to eat...lol This year my wife did not let me bring any halibut home, i had to let it go or give it away...lol

Mostly I just went camping on the boat and exploring...what few I tried to catch I gave to my inlaws, or whoever was with me on the boat...

When the fish are that big, it's definitely a sport.
