...I keep hitting the da#$ ISO button when I am taking pictures. I was out yesterday and took about 50 pictures, some good...some not, and I couldn't figure out why I was HOT on almost all of them. I look down and low and behold...ISO 1600!!! AGH!! What frustration!

To all 400D users out there...check your Iso before and after you shoot! Anyone else have this same problem?

Mike

I think it is just time to get the 40D

Before I got my 400 I was using a Fuji "bridge" camera. I'd arranged for a guy to come over and have some pics taken. He works with horses so he came dressed as a cowboy and we lent him a replica revolver.

Anyway I took a couple of hundred photos with the Fuji, and a much smaller number with my Canon A630, got home and realised I'd shot them all at iso1600.

I was sooo annoyed! I hadn't been paying attention to the camera, I'd been more concerned with shootin the cowboy :)

At the time I had vaguely noticed I was getting super high shutter speeds but a part of my brain shut out the nagging noise for some reason :(

Haven't managed the same trick with my 400d yet. I did once shoot a load of images with a custom white balance, and to make matters worse I was shooting jpeg, not RAW, so they were hard to salvage :(

My friend always shoots at ISO 1600 on his 300D because the noise doesn't show up very much on small prints, which is what he usually does.

The same thing happened to me once. When i saw the photos on the computer didn´t know what went wrong till i saw the setting! I allways check the ISO before shooting now.

Never done this, and can't quite see how this is happening since the two buttons are miles apart.

I think I am hitting it with either my nose or my cheek when I look through the viewfinder...I shoot out of my left eye, so the right side of the camera is up to my face, if that makes sense...

Hmm… do you have an unusually large nose? Seriously, I don’t really have an issue with inadvertently pressing a button but I do forget to reset the timer or turn off MLU all the time. I press the shutter and nothing. Thinking my camera is busted I start looking it over when I notice the blinking light and then the click. Got lots of pictures of shoes, eyes, random stuff like that.

Hi there! Yes, I have a big nose, and I'm left eye dominant (apparently). I'm always hitting the dangblasted ISO button with my nose without realizing it on my XTi. I can't count how many times I'm out in great shooting conditions, I set the ISO correctly, and in the middle of my shooting, I look down and see ISO 1600 or 800 or something.
Rats! It happens to me more often than I'd like.

I have slightly trained myself to keep the camera off my face a bit, but sometimes, when I'm in the hurried frenzy of shooting people or kids that are moving, I'll be shooting like crazy, and then realize that the last volly of shots that I just fired off were in 1600.

It drives me crazy!
I'm so happy to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.
And if you'd like, you can go see the size of my nose in that thread were we post self portraits of ourselves. ;)

I don't want to upgrade to the 40D or 50D though. I love the size of the XTi. For me, smaller is better. Just for the sheer fact that I can take it with me more often.
What I really want is the 50D capability in a dSLR the size of the Olympus 420 with an outstanding pancake lens.
Can you imagine how many more places you and your camera could go if it were that compact?
Once again, I live by the motto that the best camera in the world is the one you have with you. :)

I put a EX-15 eyepiece extender on there and my nose doesn't hit anything now. Although I didn't have the same issue you seem to, I just didn't like smudging the LCD screen w/ my nose all the time.
I like the eyepiece even better after (from a suggestion on this forum) I gutted the thing! No small viewfinder anymore.
