Anyone who has spent time in African bush will know how rare a good sighting of the Wild Cat is. We were later a little disappointed not to see Lion in the park, but for me this was a much more satisfying 'spot'.

As we drove across the dirt roads towards the Mata-Mata entry to the Kgalagadi I spotted a slight movement on a dune to my right and eased on the brakes. At first I couldn't see what I thought I saw and then the cat made a short run from one piece of cover to the next, clearly stalking something at distance. It was unconcerned about our presence and at a nice distance, but the light was very harsh and this is the best I managed out of half dozen or so. I just watched with the Bins.

Nice shot Tommy, I like the mood of this one. How big are these cats anyway?

fantastic shot of a wild cat. We've only ever seen them at night.

Very nice! We managed to see two when my brother and I were in Bostwana in June but not well enough to get more than a snapshot-quality photo and a quick blurry shine-the-flashlight-in-the-dark video clip. Your photos are terrific!

For folks who aren't familiar with the wildcat, it's a little bigger than the size of an ordinary housecat and can interbreed with domestic cats, which is why it's so rare (and endangered).

Hey Davey.. You and Tommy are cat lovers and they seem to love you both as well. Wonderful shot of a very elusive cat. Harsh light and all, a wonderful image.

Looking forward to all the GAPS2 shots from you all.

Welcome Home.

Might have been harsh light, but terrific shot all the same! It looks like a regular old household tabby... how big was he?
