If you guys watched the news, Hurricane Ike just passed by a few days ago. Throughout the many years that I have lived in Houston, never have I'd seen anything like this. More than 2 million people lost power including myself, and the towns closer to the Gulf of Mexico were completely devastated, some towns completely wiped out, left alone with just a few houses standing. Luckily, my house didn't suffer major damage, just minor, which includes fences knocked down, tree branches broken, etc.
Here are pictures of the aftermath. Broken trees and damaged lights could be seen all over town. Floods occured in only some of the areas. These pictures do not cover the most severe damage, which could be seen in Surfside and Galveston, TX. It's hard to go down there though, the whole city has a curphew until order is restored.

A gigantic tree that got knocked down. Notice that my friend, who is 6 feet tall, is standing at the base of the tree.

Crazy!! Everyone in Dallas was expecting more of an impact up here that they were scrambling to get last minute supplies, food and gas!!! I can't even imagine how it was like down there. One thing I don't understand though is why so many people stayed behind. There are many shelters up here providing assistance.

Most of Houston didn't need to evacuate, only the counties closer to Galveston did. I want to visit Galveston and Surfside when I can, but I think security is a **** to go down there. $2000 fine if you violate curphew.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.! I thought everyone down there was just plain crazy for staying. I would like to go down there to take a few pictures of the destruction, but man..I'm not willing to drive 6+ hours to get there for a few shots.

I'm not understanding the curfew........you just can't go? Where in the constitution?

It's an unfortunate situation, but you have a nice series here.

For safety purposes, the city issued a temporary curphew to keep people out of places where they don't belong. It's also to prevent looters from going around town and stealing stuff. Alot of traffic lights are still not working and streets are very dark now.

Curfews are a regular thing after hurricanes, it's just to keep order.

These shots are good, the desaturation works works well for these.

Wow, I moved from Houston about six years ago... I wonder if the area I lived in was damaged at all.

Great pictures. My family is only a few miles from Surfside, and were lucky enough to only sustain some tree branches and broken windows.

I'm still w/o power.

Seeing the devistation in Seabrook was too much to bare. I didnt take any pics of the damaged because it was way to real being that it was all around me. I've lived in Texas (Seabrook, just blocks from Galveston Bay) for 14 years and haven't seen anything like this.

I've been posting on a local Texas photo forum.. here are a few links with some more pics

And beeswax, glad you're safe. I can only imagine how devastating it must be.
