Well I am in need of a small system for a wedding. I was thinking another 580exII, ste2 and couple unbrella kits for flash guns. Then thought might as well got couple AB800's, wireless, softboxes, umbrellas etc. $2100-2200 worth of stuff.

Well in research I really just discovered the Quantum easy fast good results for flash (never been into flash to much). Watched there free training on there website and it seems almost to good to be true. TTL or auto mode for fill with etc.

What are you guys/gals using for weddings/onsite stuff?

As good a light as the Qflash is, I don't believe it is necessary. I also am not in the least bit impressed with the plastic used to form the case or the construction thereof. The demo unit I played with in B&H was broken. The button no longer worked, you couldn't spin the head, etc. Granted, demos take a lot of abuse.

That said, I look toward the top pros to see what they are using. Denis Reggie, whose seminar I've attended, is probably one of the most talented and successful wedding shooter there is. He commands a minimum of FIFTY GRAND per event and shoots 50 weekends a year, all over the world, having shot many, many Kennedy weddings, movie stars, etc. He uses a lowly 580ex and bounces it all over the place. If it's good enough for him, I don't think more need be said.

I hear ya MDJAK. I tend to agree, i watched the David Zeisser stuff on kelby training for onboard flash and he used was a 580ex and refelctor here and there. I think I might go minimalist and try to think smart about bouncing light etc. Beats lugging around strobes etc etc.

I have one, and I love it. But to be honest, my 580 EXII is just as capable a performer as my QFlash. My normans also do quite well for off camera light sources, but if I were you and just starting out for wedding photography, I'd look into getting a 430/580 combo, and possibly some Norman 200B's. I'd avoid getting the ST-E2 transmitters - they're too unreliable, and can't really always be counted on to fire when you need them too, especially when you're outdoors. I'd suggest getting some Alienbees Cybersyncs or Elinchrom Skyports.

Only thing I don't like about my Qflash is the build quality, for what I paid for it, it should be more robust and able to take a beating.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I saw a kelby combo deal with two lightstands, two lastolight triangle diffusers with handles, clamps and some other stuff design fro two speedlight flashguns he calls it. Somehting liek that a little smaller more portable and picking up another 580ex and some skyports or cybersyncs to fire them remotley.

I watched the Davie Ziser training on wedding photography on kelbytraining and he seems to favor shoot through umbrellas instead of softboxes. I guess the triangle diffuser would be about the same as a shoot through umbrellas with slightly less surface area
