Experimenting with "Poor Mans Macro" technique of achieving macro magnification without the macro lens. I used my 50mm f/1.4 and the XTs Kit lens to get these shots off... Here's a more in depth explanation...

*The Poor Mans Macro is taking your main lens, keeping it on your camera and using a secondary lens and placing it in front of your main lens. You have to turn the secondary lens around so the front end is looking into the main lens. With this, you can achieve really small shots.

The circle effect in some of these shots is me pulling the secondary lens away from the main lens to get the object in focus. Other shots its me shutting the aperture of the main lens down to 2.8 or smaller and you would literally see the effect of the aperture stopping down. Its awesome.

Now the pictures... (This is out of a pool of 22 that I had shot)...

Maybe not 100 f/2.8 macro quality, but I like it. Especially since you already have the lenses. I am probably going to go with extension tubes for my 50mm f/1.8 for the time being, but I might try this one out for fun.

Yep, for anyone that seriously wants to do Macro (Right now!) but doesn't have the funds to get a dedicated Macro lens, this the next best thing.

Another cool effect of using this is the whole effect of using the two different lenses to create more of a meta composition when it comes having the magnified image being projected in a circle. I used this to my advantage in the "For Her" picture. The (what looks like) extreme vignetting came out cool too (I think).
