Found out my dog needs surgery and I care more for her than I do my hobby so I'm going to have to sell my 70-200 to raise some cash. Decided to take one last fling and went to the National Zoo in DC yesterday to take a few shots. Here's what I ended up with. Please let me know what you think.

Needless to say, these took some serious cropping to get that close, even shooting at 200mm. I didn't take my 2x with me. I went down on the bike and wanted to travel light. Thank goodness for the 5D.

Beautiful pictures! That last picture almost looks like a hardboiled egg that's been cut open artistically.... fantastic!
So sad to here about your dog. I hope he/she will be ok.

MrTiles, my son liked the Frog image best also and actually, I almost missed him. I had reversed my lens hood and put the lens cap on and was leaving the zoo when I walked by this small uninteresting pond. The flower caught my eye and I shot a few shots and almost didn't see the frog sitting about two feet away. He just sat their watching as if to say "I'm next!"

Drisley, thanks for the comments and sentiments. Two weeks after being diagnosed with Addison's disease, she tore the ligament in her rear leg. Not all uncommon with rotties. If she were older, I would probably have her put down, but at only 2 years old, she's got a lot of life left in her. I figure I can sell the lens and get almost enough to cover the surgery. I can always buy another lens.

Aw, that's too bad. I love rotties! My brother has a female about that age.
You should post a picture here, taken with the 70-200 of course :)

My son';s dog tore his ACL in his hind leg, they wanted to do surgery.instead, we have him on 3 glucosamine pills a day...now, he only limps if he has been on a longer than usual walk! They got him a heated bed, 100 bucks or so, and he is a new dog.He is a lab, and was a tad heavier than he should have been.
I would try everything else first.but if it needs to be done...best of luck to you.
My own dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer the first week in April.she is still here and better than when she was first diagnosed  I make her food , and she gets glucosamine and a tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar every day.

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

LOL...that's like asking a grandparent to show you photos of their grandkids...

Here you go. The first was taken ten minutes ago (with the 70-200 which was still on the camera)and the other within the past couple of weeks.

Flo, thank you so much for that information and the encouragement. We considered putting her down but look at her, how could you put an animal this beautiful down. That was when I decided to sell off the lens or whatever else is necessary. I'll check into the glucosamine. I hadn't heard of that.

I think you made the right choice, as difficult as it was. But your photos are beautiful. I hope both your dog and your hobby get back on track soon.

Hinson, I know what you're going through. One of my English Mastiffs tore her ACL at 4 years old. We had the TPLO done and other than arthritis, she is still here with us at the very old age for a Mastiff of 11 years. Those operations sure aren't cheap!

BTW, those are some great pictures!

Dan

Nice. Let us know how things work out and post more when she's healthy.

I think you have a soft heart, a good eye, and a talent for taking good shots. Hope your puppy comes through okay.

I hope your pup gets better soon.
I know if I had to make the decision about my cat, I'd make the same one.

Very nice images from the zoo, especially enjoy the big cats. My hopes that all goes well for you and your companion. (beautiful dog) Best to you both! Pete
